Not being updated is rather the point. Professional appearance gives them some credit this current group doesn't have but if they're not active throughout this pretty important time period they're no good to anyone.

I wish people would stop assuming the delayed again twitter account and the passenger voice group are one and the same. They're not. A member of said group owns the twitter feed and it's very active but I would never endorse (and neither have I really heard suggested in the group) that communications on there be part of the ammunition against the existing operator, it's simply a convenient place to gather other passengers' experiences.

Some disillusioned commuter ranting about the TOC as a whole might earn a retweet but it tells us nothing we don't already know - the customer satisfaction surveys have got that already. What is useful, for example, is stuff like first hand accounts of disorganised replacement buses during engineering work. Sure, you can't blame the TOC for the engineering work happening (though the less well informed will obviously take to twitter to do so) but not handling the situation properly makes the TOC fair game. Granted, you can't FORCE them to change but if they demonstrate sufficiently many failures to live up to basic expectations then they are undeserving of the long term franchise. Ensuring only operators willing to put the effort in take on the long term operation is fundamental. We're not shaming Abellio because we have any vested interests in their competitors or have some sort of vendetta against their directors. We do it because if they're not interested now, why should they be next time? You can still do a much better job of running a railway without new trains etc. than AGA are currently doing, I'm sure of it.

Whoever runs the delayed_again Twitter account should be told to stop re-tweeting photos of salty floors and another seat base on the floor. And perhaps stop re-tweeting everything using some sort of bot that doesn't actually look at what's being said.

The railway senior managers took over 1st class this evening.

I am really happy that one left his rucksack in the aisle for me to trip over. Another one must have been the winner of the most boring man in British Railways Eastern Region award, ten years running.

I like to cite is that a picture was posted a while back on that twitter feed showing a 315 seat cover having been launched onto the track by someone, sitting between the tracks. I mean, seriously? No amount of TOC negligence causes that.

Ah, that was my photo. I took it on a Sunday; seat back was still there on the tracks about 2 weeks later.

That said, I will admit that the Rail Replacement buses the last few weekends has been very well organised - clear signage; plenty of staff and (at least on the Chelmsford route) clean, modern buses.

I'm not :p - Again as primarily just a core section user it doesn't affect me as badly, but for the past 3 years Thameslink reliability has been consistently worse than AGA by an order of magnitude in my experience. For the such short distances I use it for though, the delays don't tend to affect me too badly.
Southeastern I would say the experience I've had roughly tallies with that of AGA, but their trains have always been far more pleasant to travel on which takes the edge off a little bit, and that's excluding 395s.
On the whole though I only feel eligible to preach about, for good or for bad, AGA and c2c because really my sample size just isn't large enough with the other TOCs to have a proper sample.

Kev: Ah see that's more useful info. 'This has been here for weeks' with that picture says lack of care. The picture by itself just says vandalism and says more about the people in that area than it does of the TOC. Good to hear some positive feedback in balance, I do try to post some when things go smoothly. Tonight, however, they did not! Only home 8 minutes late but still, not exactly wonderful performance. On the upside, announcements at LST were excellent, even if the guy does pronounce it 'Abeelio'.

Various posts removed. Can we keep the discussion about the good and bad points about Greater Anglia rather than insults. Thanks

It is a big operation. Buses running from Billericay to four different destinations takes some sorting out of the passengers to make sure they all get the right coach or bus. Lots of passengers on my train (300+) Sunday night, but all got away on the coaches within 10 minutes of the train arriving.

Second time in a couple of weeks, following OHL work. Unclear at this stage whether it is old equipment that failed or new equipment not installed correctly. Or a train fault, or a bird strike.

The scuttlebutt from the 1st class compartment is that service was suspended with some haste. This making it out that whatever the problem was could have escalated very quickly.

Dirty trains is an issue, sure, but not a reason to get rid of Abellio. And if there are people attacking Abellio for how it's going to run things in Scotland, of which I suspect few people are even aware of the current service, then it's a joke.

I don't know much (anything) about the people behind the site, but get the impression (as I expect others would if shown the site and asked to describe the people behind it) that they're in their early 20s and think they've found a great way to change the world through a mix of sarcasm and sensationalism on a blog and Twitter.

A proper rail users group would be in there for the longhaul. There would be a clear agenda on the site, details of all the plans and aims, a newsletter people could perhaps subscribe to and so on.

Any direct communication with Abellio on Twitter to try and 'shame' the company wouldn't be necessary as there would already be a proper line of communication with key staff done privately, with respect shown on both sides.

I think you would be very surprised at the demographic. Please attend the meeting and find out for yourself. Perhaps people are just at the end of their tether?

Why should I be surprised? Is that an admission that they AREN'T people in their 20s who are acting incredibly childishly?

I assume and hope that it is the case (not the age which doesn't matter but the way they act), but simply said what people would think if they didn't know better.

Why would people turn up at a meeting in order to be proved wrong? They'd just not bother in the first place.

Again I feel this is drifting off-topic but really, if people have no interest in the content of the meetings then there's not much need to comment on their attendees, IMO. From what I've seen I'm fairly pleased with what has been happening so far and do actually have some confidence that the group will influence at least a small part of the upcoming improvements to the line. If it achieves anything at all, it'll have been worth participating in.
I understand where criticisms of the group as a whole are coming from and can't disagree with all the negative views, but fundamentally, this is a pro-railway group, not specifically an anti-Abellio group, even if that is how things will seem as part of getting the job done. If making the shortcomings of the current franchisee abundantly obvious is what's necessary to provoke change, so be it.

I wish everyone the best of luck who is out to improve things, but those who are just Tweeting nasty things day in and day out, and posting silly photos, won't get anywhere.

Get rid of those people and I'm sure the group could do well. Stay focussed and be realistic. A lot of the problems aren't just down to the operator, but a range of other bodies too - and you'll need to get many of them 'on side' to see improvements.

Bad day for the GEML?

Local press* reporting overrunning engineering works causing cancellations this morning, and now a suicide on the line cancelling services.

*they're often wrong though and have a poor track record of getting the facts right about any story

Possession was in fact given up 3 mins late, so no over run, as for the cancellations this morning, there were a couple, mainly Chelms starters, xover out of use for electrics (only) Fatality this afternoon of course different matter, but that is not NR's fault !

Lost somewhere within Bank-Monument tube station,
Caught a trio of Greater Anglia services this afternoon. Firstly, 321326 on the 15:00 Braintree-Witham. Very clean inside and out, and ran on time. I then caught 360119 on the 1523 Witham-Colchester. Again, pretty clean. The seat covers are a tad faded but are still perfectly acceptable, or at least they were in the carriage that I was sitting. Finally, my luck was in as the Pretendolino set formed the 15:47 Colchester-Ipswich. I do hope the forthcoming refurbishment of the native MK3 carriages is to the standards of this set.

All in all, a very good afternoon indeed. All my trains ran on time, and were presented well. :)

No complaints for me today either. 379 out of Liverpool Street was clean, but the poor cleaner didn't finish in time and got caught on the train, cursed, and had to stay on until Tottenham Hale. As he got off, another guy got on to clean and when he realised it had been done was a bit disappointed as he now had nothing to do until Cheshunt, whereby he got off to empty the bins on the platform instead!

Has AGA hired about 50,000 cleaners or something? Soon the trains will be crush loaded with them!

Not cleaners, just managers getting their hands dirty haha.

Anyone would think the franchise was up for grabs next year. ;)

Apparently the 05.14 Ipswich to Liverpool St and 07.00 Liverpool St to Norwich gets a buffet service as well from this week.

I can't say I've seen an improvement in the condition of the GEML rolling stock but punctuality yesterday and today has been good for me. General performance in February has been poor though so it'll take a while to get the year's average delay back down to how it was a two or three weeks back.

I used a couple of services yesterday.

2W79 1214 Shenfield to London Liverpool Street due 1257: Boarded at Ilford where it was RT, arriving LST 1E according to WTT or RT according to Public times. It was also RT throughout. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/Y12794/2015/02/23/advanced

1Y18 1302 London Liverpool Street to Ipswich due 1425: RT from LST but 2L when I left at Stratford. Got caught up in the Chelmsford fatality, where it was terminated 104L at 1547 after leaving Shenfield 5L and passing Ingatestone 53L :o http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/Y11494/2015/02/23/advanced
