Great British Railways - First Train in New Livery

It seems that the GBR standard for name-plates might be white on a dark blue background/field, if the Southeastern example is anything to go by, though that might just be an interim design to fit in with the rest of the Southeastern base livery. That would mean that the c2c examples are non-standard.
Do all these GBR units have a GBR interior too or is it just exterior work at the moment?
c2c have recently put a tender out for an interior refurbishment of their Class 357s, but it won’t start for at least a year, and I think not be complete for another couple of years after that - they might be the first trains to be refurbished into a GBR interior, though. LNER’s new-build CAF Class 897s might arrive sooner than that, though, and will presumably be in GBR from new. Thameslink’s replacement seats for the Class 700s are in a sense an initiative which will be arriving under GBR, but the sample seat is in the existing Thameslink moquette (maybe just not to bias opinions on the comfort of seat cushions themselves, by not changing another variable in the comparison next to the current standard seat). None of Thameslink’s trains have gotten the GBR livery on their exterior yet.

I think the intention is to do the replacement seats in the 700s in a GBR moquette.

I'd agree that using the current one was to stop people associating positivity and change with a different colour, like a lot of people seem to think the LNER 80x seats are different from the GWR ones when in fact they are exactly the same and it's just that the warm red colour scheme gives a nicer overall feel than GWR's dull grey and 1980s-bus-grab-pole lime green so people associate more positivity with it.

375822 is not in GBR livery, it is in Southeastern livery with GBR logos. :)
The first example of temporary branding for stock yet to get the livery, a bit like what trains would usually get when a franchise changed hands.

If anyone else wants to create an alternative list without 375822 then they're more than welcome. But for my list it counts as it now says "Great British Railways South Eastern" on the side of 375822 as per post 1305.

I will only be posting in this thread livery updates as and when they occur as that is what this thread (even though the title is now slightly outdated) is supposed to be for.

Sure, I'm just saying it's not in GBR livery:

Currently in GBR livery:
68021 - GBR Chiltern

357008 - GBR Anglia
357020 - GBR Anglia
357201 - GBR Anglia
357202 - GBR Anglia
357203 - GBR Anglia

387172 - GBR Southern

701006 - GBR South Western

720144 - GBR Anglia
720501 - GBR Anglia

CH09 (12809+12727+12726+12725+11509) - GBR Chiltern

Currently in legacy TOC livery with GBR branding:
375822 - GBR South Eastern

is the current status quo. I've added spaces between classes to make it a bit more legible.

This, in my opinion, is correct.

Totally agree. The Hull Trains ones also give the impression of being better than GWR due to the more pleasant colours.

According to Jago Hazard he's been told that the new 700 moquette will be red with images of landmarks from along the route.

I thought the 700 were currently getting new seats replacing the current ones, and the seat cover is same design as the original?

Surely if they were going to give 700s 'GBR' design that would be done now?

Yes, they are getting new seats, with a new moquette mentioned in the comment you replied to:

I’m still expecting 357210 to get into service sometime this week.

I have moved and my house backs on to the ECML. Any news of the first Azuma, 700 or 379 getting the new livery? Sick of bland grey and white. Although I have noticed the 700s lost their grey for plain white - in preparation for GBR vinyls? Likewise the 379s are appearing whiter bit by bit too rather than brown!

There has been talk on this thread for a couple of months now about an 800 that is to gain GBR livery imminently, but so far it seems to just be rumours.

The red sounds like GBR rather than Thameslink, but the landmarks from along the route I personally don’t like the sound of, because the point of the GBR livery should surely be that every train will look exactly the same as every other train across the whole of GBR, which, apart from just consistency, would also enable more seamless cascades of rolling stock, and save money by not having different types of moquette - a universal moquette can be used everywhere, thus enabling economies of scale.

I might try and spot it. Thanks.

I imagine we would need to wait for the nationalisation of GWR to see a GBR liveried 800. Its interesting considering the IET was the body the livery was originally shown on.

My comment was in response to the ECML fleet, so referring to the LNER 800s.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread multiple times that one was in the process of being liveried up, but it's yet to come to fruition.

Optics are important and this says a lot about where GBR priorities lie imo, very poorly thought through rebranding exercise.

It’s got DfT incompetence written all over it.

I was only speculating as LNER is already state owned and so far the process has been that the new state operator gets one new train. As for the LNER 800, although likely to happen soon. I doubt now, in my limited knowledge, that there is anything coming up on the ECML that would merit a big reveal. Appologies if I am wrong!

How come LNWR, Thameslink and Great Northern got away without having a train put into that livery for (re-)launch day?
LNR like Greater Anglia was the 'Coming Soon' livery
Great Northern was largely ignored since its part of GTR which did have 387172
Thameslink will probably have one when the new 'not-ironing board' seat train gets introduced to service.

There was several rumours from some well placed LNER sources that 2 units were getting liveried several weeks ago, that obviously has not happened and it's gone quite on the LNER front.

Oh of course, the GA units were reliveried a while after weren't they?

Still, odd that no LNR train has been done (or any of the operators that were already nationalised for that matter)
I appreciate Heidi Alexander wants to stop the moans about wasting money on paint, but I kind of wish they’d just bite the bullet and get on with it (excluding stock likely to be gone before 2030). The consistent single brand image is important to the operation being taken seriously in my opinion. The important thing is they don’t then change it again for a long time after THAT.

I’m going to use the bizarre analogy of throwing up, because it’s the first thing that came to mind. Say you’ve done it several times as you have a nasty case of food poisoning. The dodgy clams are almost gone. You don’t want to suffer throwing up AGAIN. But it’s better to throw up one last time and just get rid of it and be done, rather than suffer a long drawn out nausea that ends up causing you the same amount of discomfort just spread out over more time.

Sort of:
GA has 755422 - debranded (no logos) with GBR Coming soon stickers
LNR has 730210 - debranded (no colour on the sides or logos) with GBR Coming soon stickers
WMR has 730033 - debranded (no logos) with GBR Coming soon stickers but retains its west midlands diamonds

For WMR, its interesting. The 172s are currently undergoing full repaints into the brighter orange the 196s have, but in complete contrast to C2C, these are ex-works in full WMR livery with branding!

Although not officially confirmed, the reason for the WMR livery being reapplied to the 172's has been covered multiple times including in this thread.

Its all part of improving the Norths railway, we are being kept far away from the crimes against train painting committed down south

The problem is that not only are you incurring the cost of paint (and painting vehicles is not cheap), but there's also the fact trains stopped for paint outside of normal overhaul cycle potentially impact service provision (i.e. short-forming). What also doesn't help is the long-lasting nature of paint now - it's not like BR days when repaints were a lot more frequent.

Perhaps the answer is to use the full GBR livery as a "quality standard" so that those reliveried have a minimum level of internal quality? Much like Network SouthEast did back in the 1980s.
The important thing is they don’t then change it again for a long time after THAT.
Agreed. Important to take time to get it right and people in GBR empowered to make hard decisions - and the current effort is an utter dog's breakfast.
