suprises me that no-one has a thread on just general random railway questions, so I'll break that suprise.
You can do between 1 and 3 questions. I'll be nice and start with some easy ones...

1) Can a class 141 be coupled to a class 159 without adapter / emergency couplers in place?

2) Take the first two letters of Britain's most southerley station, then put the first two of Britain's most notherley station on those, what does it spell?

3) Northern operate no stock built post-privatisation: true or false?

1. Probabally not...The build of those two classes differs by a good 8-10 years IIRC.
2. Penzance + Wick = Pewi?
3. If they're like any other TOC, then that's an almost definite No.

1) Theoretically they can. They were rebuilt in the late 1980's with BSI autocouplers to replace the old Tightlocks and jumpers that they had when new so that they could work in multiple with other Pacer and Sprinter classes.

It's got to be True...Every time I pass through Birmingham NS, the pitiful speed of the train always makes me want to break into the drivers cab and shove the power controller into the "Full" position!

I might be passing through Birmingham NS in about 4-5 hours though, so will double-check for ye if I do.

I've heard that the 3rd-rail-with-pacer thing is purely superstitious, and no such rule exists? :? Anyway, class 159s go down 3rd rail lines all the time So the statement must be false.

technically class 158/159 units are not classed as 15X, as they are very different to their origins. It's actually true. Only class 158/159 units are cleared for service on the 3rd rail. this is to do with the electric jumper cables between vehicles hanging low to the rail, which could cause short circuits etc

You sure about that? The only speed restriction signs on the approaches to New Street are 10mph and when leaving trains usually acclerate to 10mph before increasing once the line speed increases

They are on some sections of third rail - yes.

Well thats only on a technicality. 360's are leased to the Heathrow Connect franchise not the FGW one.

I cant think of anyone who wont be from December who isn't now.
