TBH, it really does look like old rail. Don't particularly want to test it myself, though :D

So how do you explain the insulators then?

The first and last trains operated by Northern in and out of Leeds on a Monday to Friday are? (and not looking on LDB). Including departure and arrival times.
I think....

By the clock:-
2Y46, 23:15 SHF to LDS 00:30 (first revenue earning NT arrival/departure after 00:00)
2E67, 22:19 MCV to LDS 23:58 (last revenue earning NT arrival/departure before 00:00)

By service hours:-
2M00, 05:08 LDS to MCV 06:46 (first revenue earning NT service of the 'day')
2E71, 23:19 MCV to LDS 00:54 (last revenue earning NT arrival/departure of the 'day')

Sea-Land Corporation was a seperate company that was bought by the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group from the CSX Corporation in November 1999. In fact, Maersk also actually own P&O Nedlloyd and your Safmarine, however they chose not to merge the latter into the Sealand brand and keep it seperate. Torm Lines was merged into the Safmarine brand in 2002.

In the cab with the paper
technically class 158/159 units are not classed as 15X, as they are very different to their origins. It's actually true. Only class 158/159 units are cleared for service on the 3rd rail. this is to do with the electric jumper cables between vehicles hanging low to the rail, which could cause short circuits etc

Sorry, but that's rubbish.

All the jumpers and pipes between MU vehicles hang in-board of the running rails and a good way clear of the ground in any case to prevent them from snagging on lineside objects. This means that they are well clear of the juice rail at all times. If there was going to be a short it would be to the running rail or to ground before it went up a jumper, both of which are a damn sight closer and much more electrically conductive. Don't forget that the air pipes are rubber and the jumpers are electrically shielded.

Cl14X and Cl15X units are not banned from DC lines. Any suggestion to the contrary is just a myth.

It wouldn't be Buffet Open/Closed would it? Every time I travel on loco-hauled services, the buffet always seems to be operating to a very random schedule...:grin::razz:

(Sorry to dig up an old thread, but was flicking through a few old topics and just couldn't resist it! <D)

Class 153, 150, 158's are all permitted into platform 7 at Chester and this is DC electrified for the Mersey Rail

158s used to go into Waterloo for Wales and West, and I think they went into Brighton too!

look! I was wrong - I'M SORRY! :p

What multiple working system do class 25s have (what's it called) and what other classes is it compatible with? And for a bonus, how do you tell if a loco has it by looking at it?

I'm not sure about a 158!

I've seen quite a few of them in Brighton, both SWT ones and as westcoaster said FGW ones.

Blue Star? Other locos it is compatible with would be any with Blue Star, off the top of my head they would be classes 24, 26, 27, 31, 33, 37, 40 and 73. And you can tell if a loco as it by seeing if it has a small little blue star?
