So whoever was pope in 1066..........?
Correct timewise, but we need the name of the Pope.So whoever was pope in 1066..........?
Not that one. Remember the referred-to invasion took place in AD1066.Think of a pope's name, think of a number then try
Pious xi
Yeah but popes have been around a long timeNot that one. Remember the referred-to invasion took place in AD1066.
Popes had been around for a thousand years, prior to the one we seek.Yeah but popes have been around a long time
Anyway, thinking of another papal name and a lower number
Leo ii
Well done, young sir. I award you a plenary indulgence.Alexander Ii?
Not the answer I was looking for.None.
Sorry.
You're on the right lines but it's not 22.The problem with popes is that even if you know there was an Arbuthnot VI it doesn't necessarily mean there have been 6 popes called Arbuthnot as one might have been declared an antipope and removed from the list.
So if 23 is incorrect I will assume that the person answering had some knowledge and knock off a 'John' pope and try:
22
Pope John XIX did exist but Pope XX didn't.I will offer up 19 as the number of Popes with the actual name of Pope John.
In AD523-525, there was a Pope John XVI who was not recognised and the recognition of the real Pope was that of Pope Gregory V.
Much later at the time of schism there were no official Popes John IXX or Pope John XX.
Indeed so. Pope John XIX (AD1024-1032) succeeded his brother Pope Benedict VII.Pope John XIX did exist but Pope XX didn't.
As you have provided most details would you like to set the next question?Indeed so. Pope John XIX (AD1024-1032) succeeded his brother Pope Benedict VII.
I was confused with the furore that came towards the end of his papacy with accusations that he became Pope through bribery.
Therefore I shall offer 21 as the number of Pope John's.
