That is indeed the area in question. What used to be known as the Falkland Island Dependencies is now normally referred to as South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.

That information should now help the solving of the conundrum.

Didnt know the answer so have looked it up out of curiosity (and self disqualification) and that is a fantastic name for a Volcano.

I used to pay more attention to volcanic activity worldwide, but alas i am a lapsed geologist now....

You were nearly right with the year, but this particular volcano has its better-known name from that of a medical condition caused by its fumes. Although it is on a British possession, the name of the island shows which country that was exploring in the early period.

Absolutely correct on both counts. Just as a matter of interest, the island that it on is Zavadovski Island, as it was a Russian expeditory team in those very early daysl

Correct.

Sometimes referred to as Henley on Todd it is a light hearted event poking fun at, well, obviously, things like Henley Regatta.

The race is using teams who run on the river bed with 'boats'.

The Todd river runs, or rather usually doesn't, through Alice Springs.

In 1993 the event was cancelled as the usually dry river had water in it.
