Start the tractor flapping
Its certainly a new tactic by the GCR to generate all the excitement the week after its gala

Ha ha, yeah! 8-)

By the way, I should add that I was reading too much into things which I was told by certain individuals, and that it's unlikely that 37198+255 will be in service at this "mini gala".....apolagies for any confusion caused.

May I just point out that 37255's banned (still) from passenger services, 37198's for contract secure storage and 37314 is currently stopped for repairs.
I'm not saying that 314 won't be running, I'm just saying I'd be surprised if it does...

37255 is only banned from use on passenger trains due to it's brake problems, if there was a translator loco this houldn't be a problem.

I hope 190/314 works as 610 is air only and something needs to translate ;)

wish the GCRN could get a loco to be named - can remember the Freightliner 66 which crashed at great heck (66521 I think) was there when new, we've also had an EWS tractor here too

If it is a former Anglia Buffet first then it will be a Mk2F formerly from XC

Hence my earlier post about duff gen!

You don't have owt to do with the GCR so I doubt you're in a position to confirm anything!

If you read the posts throughly you would see that he had been told by a friend who knew the allocated driver for the weekend:
Having spoken to someone who knows the person who will be driving 37610 on the 26th/27th
I think the booked driver is in a good position to confirm things

A friend of a friend!

Believe nothing till you read the press release announcing it!

It's speculation being 'confirmed' like that that gets people's hopes up for nothing, and as been seen, at least one element of said post was wrong!

Drivers are last to be told anything anyway!

I think I made it clear in my original posting, aside from the small mistake regarding 37198/255 which was simply something I was passed on which turned out to be false (touch wood).

I have a contact or two at the GCR and my mate does indeed know the driver. As for how much the driver knows......don't ask me, I'm just the messenger.

Good evening to you all! I've been looking over the internet today for any news about the 37610. I understand from what I read that a number of you were interested in it's renaming.

My name is Tom Cassady, son Ted Cassady whom the 37610 has been named after. He worked for DRS and Brush Traction for many years; the loco commemorating his memory and years od dedicated service to Direct Rail Services. We'd just like to thank anyone from Brush, DRS and GCR that helped in the naming ceremony and getting the loco up and running.

Thank you to everyone for keeping a respectful distance on the 17th of April. The family had no idea the renaming would attract so much attention and to be honest it was a lovely surprise. I think Ted would've been really chuffed.

We managed to take a lot of very lovely shots of the train from a few different angles. If anyone would like to have a copy of some of them, just reply to this message and I'll try and sort something out.

Please feel free to tell as many people as you'd like about this message.

Kind Regards

Tom Cassady and the family.

Hello, welcome to the forum! Great news about 610 isn't it? It's a real good cause, good to have a train named after a railwayman and not some name that was thought of in 10 seconds. Vacs come to mind! How long did it take to think of the name 'Superb' or 'irresistable'?

:)

Hi Tom.
I have received a request from the GCR RE running 37314 with 37610 next weekend and I will get back to you all on this.
If it runs, would you be attending?
If so, please feel free to come over to 314 and say hello.

All class 50s were named after warships, so a surprising amount of thought was put into naming each one due to the sheer amount of warships there have been over the centuries.

I'd like to say "Welcome to the forum" although I'm a newbie here as well :)

Sorry for your loss, I'll spare a thought for your father and to your family when I see 37610 next weekend. I'm pleased that he will be well remembered and that his name will adorn 37610 on it's travels.

Regards,
BW.

Unfortunately 37314 is out of traffic and will not be appearing with 37610 at the GCR next weekend.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Didn't like going on a railway more than about a mile long probably!

Didn't seem to mind when at the SVR, WSR and MHR, but thats going back a bit now...

Where were you yesterday Mr 87015, 33019 is pretty loud, even 053 was good and didn't blow up, that was left to 905, although was rectified later.

Maybe the Rat as I believe it had a booked turn that weekend anyway?! Could always try and get 198 going
Yes, the Rat should be running next weekend.
I have had a word with the GCR ops manager and "Plan B" will now be used, most likely the 25.
Still need a translator for 610 though ;)
I can assure you that it definately will not be 37314.
I was doing all the phoning and organising for the event today and have had to come to the conclusion (though not lightly) that I'm not running 37314 next weekend as it will not be fit for traffic, this is due to ongoing repairs to the broken window.

Will we be just getting the 1215/1415 ex Loughbourgh departures with it or is there a chance of another run later?

Is the only problem with 190 the window?

If it is, then thats a pretty poor reason to keep it off the gala.

Tom, we have 4 drivers for it, all of whom are either away or working on the weekend. Now, do you want to try to convince them to drive it on the day? If so, be my guest!
The window can and will be boarded up for security of the loco and it has been found that that side of the cab requires refurbishment, which on our workload is likely to take up to 3/4 weeks.
Plus, it is not a gala, it is a normal running day with 37610 working the standard diesel diagram plus one.

Sorry I sound annoyed, but it's because I am. I have been trying my hardest to find any workaround possible to get 37314 running at the weekend and have not taken the decision lightly to stop it. And then to be told that a security and comfort measure "is a pretty poor reason for it to not run", it feels like I'm being kicked while I'm down!
I'll tell you what, why don't you go with 314, sit in the secondman's seat and get your face frozen by the winds at 25mph over Swithland Res. Doesn't sound good? No, thought not. And believe me, I've tried it, it's NOT pleasant!
So before you actually do something to help pres like that, keep your trap shut and let me get on with arranging work for the locos I work on.

GCR also can't provide any drivers who sign 37s at the moment to cover for the CFA chaps and hence only 610 can be available, as a DRS driver will be driving it with a route conductor!

Believe there is an extra run in the timetable booked for 1715.

The CFA will only allow our own drivers on our locos, on a "you break it, you fix it" kind of basis. It's all very fair, but can prove a logistical nightmare in cases like this coming weekend. There is only one GCR driver whom the Chairman trusts at the moment on our locos, but sadly he is not passed on the class.

And correct, there is planned to be an extra teatime run with 37610 on the evening of the Saturday only, with hopefully a couple of BEEREXes thrown in. Sunday is back to normal with only 2 round trips from 37610.

You did not mention drivers before. All what was mentioned was just a window. So don't have a go at me with extra information that you didn't make clear beforehand. Besides, who says Saturday will be cold? And if its boarded up, then how will this mysterious cold wind get blasted into the second mans face? Another thing would be that it is not forcasted to be cold on Saturday.

I can understand you being ****ed off that people are monaing that 190 is not out, but earlier you had said it was to do with the broken window, if that was all it was it's not a massive job, i've done it and if that was the only thing stopping it from working I would not mind turning up to help (and i'm sure other people wouldn't either), if there are no drivers for it then that can be understood, the guys are volunteers and cannot be forced to do any work they don't want to (and I presume this was an extra day not originally planned for 190 to be running) so no one had been sorted in advance. I am involved with pres and can understand that you can't please everyone all the time, still I would like to take this oppertunity to thank everyone at the GCR, DRS and anyone else involved in organising this event and I hope you get 190 going again soon :)

Below is the maintenance report from Sunday last:

CFA Maintenance Report 20/4/08 said:
I have now stripped out most of the trim and panels to allow the droplight to be renewed. Thankfully I did not have to disconnect the heaters: The conduit coming up out of the floor is flexible and allows the complete panel to be hinged forwards to get access to the scissors (AKA lazy-tongs).

Some of wood that the trim and panels screw onto is starting to rot and will need replacing (although this will not prevent the droplight from being refitted). Both of the channels that the droplight runs in also need to be replaced.

I will try and make up a thick wooden panel that can easily be put in the space where the droplight goes and bolted in from the inside to make the loco secure. A thick plastic sheet can then duct taped over it to keep the water out.

At present the "bread tray" is screwed to one side of the droplight gap with the other side wedged in place against the seat (which is prevented from turning by a screwdriver in a handy hole in the seat pedestal.

As always, 37412, any help you are willing to offer will be greatly received, as there are plenty of other jobs which need doing on the 37 other than the window.
Unfortunately the loco's in Loughborough, the fitter's in Heywood's Heath and the glass and runners are in Birmingham. Causes a bit of a problem there :p
