GCR(N) mk2E buffet coach

A small group of volunteers at the Nottingham Transport Heritage centre recently purchased a mk2E buffet coach from HSBC. Bought for £5000, many people with years of experience said we must have stolen it for that price, it is in very good condition! Last used by 'one' in Summer 2005, coach 1215 was one of the last Anglia coaches to be used on the GEML. The seating, upholstery, carpet and electrical components, toilet and all that still functions correctly. The kitchen area still had all notices from 'one' up, which we were removing yesterday. The microwave, sinks and plugs still function, and the counter area is functional. The first public run for this coach is expected to be with the Gatwick express stock on April 13th, hauled by a class 25/47 top 'n' tailing. Food and drink will be served. If it's on battery power alone with all that running off it it'll be flat in about an hour!

the class 47 has ETH as it is a 47/0 (I think, it's 292) and will only be running top 'n' tail with that and the 47. We are awaiting the tractor to come into service which has ETH, but it's in pieces at the moment. it has been announced that we are splitting a rake of 3 Gatwick Express coaches and placing the centre one in a siding, placing the 2 end gatwicks together then hooking the anglia coach on top of that for when single loco op. is necessary, as we can only have 3 coaches if one loco is operating, and in the gatwick rake ideally we need the GLV for the guard. One day this will have a traction motor fitted to eliminate the restriction on coaches

We open on Easter Sunday running a 0-6-0 peckett saddle tank with the mk1s and mk2BSO, then most weekends are steam traction, with a diesel service once a month, and diesel galas with rovers available in June and October

nope, number 63 was used somewhere in wales originally for hauling freight, and 56, dunno, it's in pieces!!

The only 47 at Rudd that has ETH is the 47/7 which hasn't been restored yet. The 37 also does not have ETH.

As for 'behind the scenes', I can confidently say nowt particularly interesting happens behind the scenes at most preserved railways, it's much the same as the national network, all pretty transparent.

I'm pretty sure the 37 has ETH, it's a 37/0. the 47/0 is having steam heaters fitted to it soon

A 37/0 will not have ETH.

Steam Heat is a completely different kettle of fish from Electric Train Heat and unfortunately won't power a Mark 2 E.

Your best bet for heat will be the Res duff, although maybe not necessary as the Mid Norfolk seems to manage OK with its air con buffet when in use with no heat engines...

... I stand corrected! The 47 will be used with mk1s/mk2a BSO as they have steam heaters fitted. Hopefully not too long until 47765 is restored, but it's an absolute HEAP at the moment, and we have no room in the any of the sheds, as one is in use for the tractor, one is in use for the 56, and the main route through that shed we can't use because shunting takes place daily in there.

a class 73 has arrived on site for 2008 whilst 1 class 20 is at the MRC(B). we shall hopefully be using it at the galas. unfortunately 47292 suffered a battery fault which caused part of the loco to be minorly damaged by fire. we are now using the rat, with the GLV being manned when propelling

not heard about it personally, but we have had main-line visitors before, such as 66521 when brand new, EWS 37s, 60s...

oh and by the way, the coach made its debut today when it ran for the first time in public service - all went fantasticly well (this excluded countless trespassers, one who was on 50 steps bridge and attempted to climb on to the roof whilst stationary, but didn't make it after I shouted at him! :roll:

update on the coach (to get back on topic): The coach is being withdrawn from traffic along with the GatEx stock until the June diesel gala to undergo a deep clean and light refurb. This involves keeping the gat ex stock in intercity livery, but repainting it (it iss badly faded and damaged) and the Anglia will be going in to intercity too. it is hoped that once restored, 47765 (currently Rail-express systems) will also be repainted in that livery, to be used with the stock being our only ETH loco bar the 73, which is only hired to replace a class 20 we lost to the MRC

also - I am creating a BVE passenger view of the Anglia and GatEx passenger views. would have done the class 489 GLV (think it's a former car from a 2-EPB) but it's extremely difficult to get a decent shot, the cab's tiny!

Having spoken to someone who knows the person who will be driving 37610 on the 26th/27th, and having spoken to someone who works at the GCR I can confirm that the event is in it's final planning stages. Expect something to appear on the official GCR website in due course.

And yes, the plan is for 37610/37255/37314/37198 to be operating at the mini-gala over the weekend of April 26th/27th. It's also worth noting that Pathfinder are running a tour on the 26th which passes Loughborough and will be 2x EWS 37's :grin:

May I just point out that 37255's banned (still) from passenger services, 37198's for contract secure storage and 37314 is currently stopped for repairs.
I'm not saying that 314 won't be running, I'm just saying I'd be surprised if it does...
