Thank you for the additional information. I commute on 142's and in light of fleet movements and withdrawal, I am trying to ride the rest of them.

I have been meaning to strike off the Stockport to Guide Bridge line for a long time. I think I'll pop down next Friday.

Which will be 142's, no chance of a 144. However, 1 (possibly 2) 156's have been trundling around recently, a pleasant surprise to break up the monotomy.

I had noticed that quite a bit this week too. I cannot remember seeing that many 156's on the Saltburn branch in a long time .

You will find Pacers operating most trains on the Lincoln -Sheffield- Doncaster - Scunthorpe / Adwick diagrams. However 153s are scheduled for a few services and do appear as substitutes more often than they should. Such substitutions can be picked up on Northern's train checker pages.

I don't mind. I remember riding 153's on the Saltburn branch when they were first converted from 155's. Even had a few on the Newcastle to York, via Durham Coast a few times too. Spirited run down the ECML.

From observation the Cumbrian Coast 142 Diagram (Monday to Friday) is:
05:19 Preston - Barrow in Furness
07:44 Barrow to Sellafield
09:00 Sellafield to Barrow
10:10 Barrow to Carlisle
12:52 Carlisle to Lancaster
16:52 Lancaster to Morecambe
(Not sure of its workings after this)

Are there still any 153 diagrams on that route? I know that the early morning service Sheffield to Retford (platform 2 which is different) 2P51 which then forms the Leeds service 1L74 is booked as a 158, and the last Sheffield to Worksop service of the day is also a 158 but I wasn't sure of any remaining 153 diagrams. The rest are generally pacers though as stated.

Interestingly (though off topic) the 1L74 Retford to Leeds service in the morning is the only 1*** service to use that route via Worksop. I assume it is given a 1*** head code due to it being semi fast from Sheffield to Leeds

Is it unlikely that the class 68s in Anglia will continue to run up to August-September? I've heard the 170 that was damaged and were covered by the locos has returned to Norwich.

Morning all. Since the switch to solely 387s and 365s on Great Northern and some routes extended, I would like to compare the unit mileage and unit flow in and out Kings Cross. Before the Change there were a couple of lengthy layovers at Kings Cross.

If anyone's interested, it was a 5 car Meridian; Standard class looked pretty close to 100% full, First Class (which I was in) was probably about 70-80% occupied (both on the outward journey and the return working).

Worth noting, on the same topic, the 1449 Birmingham New Street to Hereford produced 170511 vice booked 150 today. Might just be low 150 availability today but faith in that diagram is low currently!

-11:25 Plymouth to Dundee service runs non stop via the Fife Circle once every week day, rather than taking the coastal route and stopping at Kirkcaldy. It's the only cross border service which goes over that line out with diversions and I expect not many people know about this. (No Sunday service)

Departs Edinburgh 20:15 and arrives into Dundee at 21:41

My lad is desperate to use them to Dundee, and they only appear here on Sundays (apart from the very early morning service to GSQ).

The 18:56 all stopper to Carnoustie is, most of the time, operated by a 158. Keeps it fairly local for you also
As for Sundays, you'll find them on the majority of the Glasgow Queen Street services throughout the day.

0937 Glasgow Queen Street to Aberdeen & 1331 Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street were a 170+158 combo when I did that service in May.

Interesting , will need to have a peek of that 7 car DMU service .
