Not sure theres going to be a june intermodal intake if there only telephone interviewing people in May, as you would need to take the tests, have a dm interview, medical an hand in a your notice period which for most people would be a month.

You think? Maybe if they introduced a gladiator pit instead, things would be so much better. Or offer to work for half the wage, then you'll be at a massive advantage?

Don't reckon many would speak to me though.

Yeah it makes sense (as I earlier said) that unless you got 100% on the test you won't progress - straight in the bin am afraid, what else would be the point?

I wonder then what the number is of people who got 100%? As that's the only number you need to think about.
And then after phone interview it will be down to the usual manageable amount of a few hundred (pure guess).

Does anybody have any tips on the phone interview? Is it a knowledge check? Math questions etc, or personal? Motivation for applying etc?

There was 8000 applicants for the June intake with only 15 spaces available, you will only be processed if you got all 12 questions correct on the test! Anyone that has applied previously will not be counted unless they re-applied on line! Hope this helps :)

You're only on 18k for 10 weeks, then 24k for 24 weeks then 37k for 72 weeks after that before getting full drivers salary. Hope that helps!

Just curious as to where your getting your information from? Cheers

I've already passed the psychometric tests at Watford. Will they still take into account the online assessment at the end of the application? Not sure I answered them all correctly!! ;-(

Make sure you know the number of the WON of the week of your interview if you are currently a guard ;)

I would think, as above, that they would weed out people who answered incorrectly on the online test first, regardless of whether you've passed psychometric testing before or not. This wouldn't be a consideration at that point, unfortunately. They can afford to be choosy, and TOCs can enforce stricter exams than the required minimum. So if they need you to pass the online test then so you must. I just think it stinks that they don't give you a score! Nor a reason for rejection, just silence!

A very interesting thread, seems a lot of you are very knowledgeable of how TOC's operate. I have applied several times over the years but cannot seem to get pass the application stage. My background is banking and control centre type work - any pointers on what I need to train on or qualifications to take?

I work for freightliner and have been thru process so it's know my info is correct.

Yes I also work for freightliner. There's been a lot of conspiracy between my colleagues, as to how good you have to do in the test. I was under the expression that this was the first time the test was introduced as part of the application process, certainly no one from my end has seen or done it before.

I thought the online assessment would be used to assess the ability of the candidates applying to see if they are worth sending to Watford? It would be more cost effective to interview candidates who have already passed the psychometric tests for their suitability rather than testing a load of people Who may not pass. It would save a lot of time, effort and money (travel costs, hotels and the actual test which in itself is around £300 per candidate) to interview those already assessed. This is just my opinion! Im sure they'll have their own reasons for asking if you've already passed the test, although I hope they look at these people first

I don't think there will be a requirement to pass that test 100%. I believe the test is just to prove that you have some potential before they go on to look at your other attributes.

There will certainly be a minimum score, probably 70-80%, which allows for a little error. It's probably just a sifting method to get rid of the jokers straight away without even looking at their applciation. That must cut out about 20% of applicants right off the bat.

I agree, I'd certainly say having the pyschometric under your belt would give you an edge over others without. I can't see either, that a less than 100% pass on the attlitude test will fail you to go to the next stage. What if your previous employment, qualifications and application is impeccable, but get one question wrong???

Especially if Freightliner paid for you to take the assessments before

Good luck to all who've applied!

I think all companies should ask if you have sat the tests and prioritise those candidates be more cost effective

It annoys me when I read forums and read the false information people post.

As I currently work in a company where we use the same method of application process as Freightliner. I can assure all of you that your application will NOT have been binned if you did not get all the questions in the test correct.

In fact it is the complete opposite,

These tests are given a time limit of 20 minutes for a reason. The answers to all the questions are easily found by doing a Google search so by timing the test it means less chance of cheating. Like the company I work for we know this happens so unless the applicant is a member of MENSA a 100% Score in the test will be seriously questioned.

These tests are not designed for applicants to get 100% and if you gave 1000 people 20 minutes to complete one of the tests (with no internet access) I would put my mortgage on not 1 of them scoring 100%!

It is very clear to see when marking the tests who has done it legit and who has had a wee peek on Google to help them out.

So please don’t get dishearten that you got some questions wrong as it will make no difference to your application, it’s the ones who know they got them all correct that should worry as there credibility will be called into question.

In 4 years I have seen 1 applicant score a genuine 100% and that’s from over 10000 tests taken in that time.

Sorry but it is not that impossible to get 100% on this test without cheating

agreed, the test was basic at best while its easily possible to make a mistake or mess up on the questions its not beyond the realms of possibility for a lot of people to get 100% out of the 12 questions, hell 1/2 of the were so easy a 5 year old would be able to do them.

Then again, would you choose a candidate who ( for example ) has no previous employment history, no railway experience, who just so happened to answer all 12 questions correctly. Over another candidate, who has...say 15 years of engineering background and knowledge/ experience of railway behind him/her yet incorrectly answered one or two questions??

It's also possible for someone to get, for example, 10 of the 12 questions correct through their own knowledge and understanding, and then had two lucky guesses.

So asking someone to explain a 100% record may be difficult, especially for me as I can't even remember the questions now...

the correct answer is C, one with all the exp and got all the questions correct ;)

Can anyone help with how best to improve their knowledge on psychometric questions and how to get past the application stage. I have applied several times over the years and never manage to get past the application stage - help required from my fellow people. :D

I can assure you that because of the amount of applicants that were recieved only 100% test score will get you thru to the next round, I know this for a fact as I see the new applicant trainer daily! Remember there is only 15 spaces! Sorry to be blunt but there's no need to keep giving people false hope.

At last somome is talking sense, I saw the questions and seriously if you didnt get them all right you don't deserve to be a train driver :)

Fair enough, but I'm not giving people false hope, I'm offering a theory on why the test is there. Until someone in-the-know comes along (which you claim to be), we can do nothing but speculate.

You can't disagree that my guess of it being a sifting tool wasn't outwith the realms of possibility.

For the record, I think I got 100% on the tests, it really wasn't that difficult.

Brutal I know but keeping costs down now is key.
