Training and development.
The Trainee Train Driver programme normally lasts around 12 months. The training course is split into stages:

• Personal Track Safety
  Two day classroom training followed by a written exam.
• Rules and Regulations training
  This involves six weeks of intense classroom work, often requiring candidates to stay away from home for the duration of the course. Additional studying is also required in the evenings. At the end of this training stage, a written exam will be undertaken.
• Traction training course
  The Class 66 locomotive training course is carried out over three weeks:
  The first two weeks comprise a mix of classroom theory and hands‐on experience on static locomotives, covering all the systems required to operate the locomotive in a safe and controlled manner
  The following week involves practical handling on the main line with an instructor to guide trainees in the initial training of driving freight trains.
• Wagon course
  This gives trainees a basic knowledge of the Freightliner wagon fleet. It is a mixture of classroom and practical training over two days.
• Train handling
  Each Trainee Driver will receive practical train driving skills. This will involve the trainee shadowing a mentor driver for a number of shifts. This mentor driver will encourage, guide and train them in all aspects of driving trains and the trainee will gain necessary experience of incidents that are encountered as part of the role. Assessments with the Management team will be on‐going throughout this part of the training.
• Route training
  Once all of the above has been completed, trainees will be given route training applicable to the depot that they are located at.

Please note:
Candidates must be willing to stay away from home for some aspects of the training. Candidates must be dedicated, hard‐working, organised and self‐disciplined.

Yeah, iirc last year they had a dedicated link for applications away from the normal Freightliner site. It worked. Lots of time for them to fix it I suppose, though I know that applications will flood in once they do.

No problem shame all companies insist on telephone interviews these days

Last time the aptitude test was a mini mechanical/spatial awareness test

Gotcha, I think I applied last year, hard to remember who you've tried with and when, especially after getting a bit jaded with it all.

Getting the link to work should negate having to sit the aptitude test

Applied freightliner last may passed whole assessment first time failed final interview nerves got better of me

Passed sift for C2C depot driving last November wafv test score did not meet their requirements
Passed telephone interview and DM interview FGW last December now on hold
Passed sift for East Midlands Trains january but declined persuing as a Depot Driving position and on hold for mainline above
Passed sift for greater anglia applied December continued even though discovered after applying I was 'successful' with FGW... got 71 on application passed assessment to their standard already took dfft test as extra passed that but failed final interview... FGW was distracting me and gf really didn't want me to move for greater anglia so none of that helped

Freightliner IM have a depot at Bristol
No harm in going for it again

Fairwater Yard is home to one of the High Output Ballast Cleaning trains (HOBC).

As far as I know all the drivers for Fairwater and possibly Westbury FL stuff are Stoke Gifford Drivers.

We're Heavyhaul at Rugby, not Intermodal. Nearest Intermodal depot to Wolves is Lawley St (Saltley, Brum)

Sorry Nic Nic, nothing in the South West with intermodal. HeavyHaul would be your best bet but we've taken on a lot of trainee drivers and I don't know if they'll take on any more.

Ok thanks for the heads up. I had my application in within an hour of the website working so it's up to the powers that be now. Would be willing to relocate for the job but I know that can act against an applicants favour. just out of interest where are all the freightliner intermodal driver depots?
