Nobody's stopping you. Just don't try working in science, IT or engineering (those being the "no reason" that UTC was introduced). So basically it's a change someone made for no reason, just to be awkward. I'll stick with GMT thanks.

I don't suppose there's any chance of Channel 4 bringing their coverage forward by at least an hour from 22.00 to 21.00...?Updated schedule for tomorrow:
Qualifying 07:30 local time, 10:30 UTC
Grand Prix 12:30 local time, 15:30 UTC
"UTC" is the same thing as GMT right?
Why can't they just say GMT then?
So basically it's a change someone made for no reason, just to be awkward. I'll stick with GMT thanks.
Decades? What? Time around the world has always been measured with GMT as the starting point. That's the way it's been since I was a kid. That exactly why GMT exists.
So basically it's a change someone made for no reason, just to be awkward. I'll stick with GMT thanks.
I suspect that an increasing number of young persons in the UK don't use the outdated expression 'GMT' as well. Maybe Brexit champions will promise to legislate its use from some future date.Go for it. Most peoplel outside the UK won’t know what you mean, but there you go, your choice.
What has Brexit got to do with anything. GMT is still used as a time zone just like every other country has their own time zone (or multiple) it's just GMT is no longer a time standard. GMT is still used for legal and social aspects within the UK.I suspect that an increasing number of young persons in the UK don't use the outdated expression 'GMT' as well. What does GMT stand for?
GMT stands for Greenwich Mean Time, the local clock time at Greenwich. From 1884 until 1972, GMT was the international standard of civil time. Though it has now been replaced by Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), GMT is still the legal time in Britain in the winter, used by the Met Office, Royal Navy and BBC World Service. Greenwich Mean Time is also the name of the time zone used by some countries in Africa and Western Europe, including in Iceland all year round.
Formula 1 is watched around the world, in many countries and many time zones.
In most of those places, no-one would have a clue what GMT means.
Complete nonsense.Go for it. Most peoplel outside the UK won’t know what you mean, but there you go, your choice.
You may think so, but the fact is that UTC is in more common usage internationally than GMT.Complete nonsense.
Ah, a reasoned argument there.Complete nonsense.
I haven't heard any mention of that on the R5SX commentary, but indeed it's looking like being a 16:00 start (our time) at best.PS the race time was brought forward an hour due to rain but because of all the drapeau rouge action the start will have to be delayed to give the 4 hours time between qualification and start time!
It’s going to be a very busy morning for the engineers, several smashed up cars. Especially unfortunate for teams such as Williams and Aston Martin with both their cars involved in accidents.I haven't heard any mention of that on the R5SX commentary, but indeed it's looking like being a 16:00 start (our time) at best.
It should be well worth listening to, with a mixed up grid and more rain expected during the race.
In a way, GMT and UTC are used identically as far as timezones go. But UTC was a new definition for how civil time is defined that replaced a definition related to solar days used by GMT.So basically it's a change someone made for no reason, just to be awkward. I'll stick with GMT thanks.
More of a demolition derby than an F1 qualifying. It’s going to be a very busy morning for the engineers, several smashed up cars. Especially unfortunate for teams such as Williams and Aston Martin with both their cars involved in accidents.
Which Williams have retracted as they try to repair both cars.Albon has confirmed he won't be taking part.
Which Williams have retracted as they try to repair both cars.
The BBC website is saying that the start remains at 15:30 (our time), so the "4 hour minimum gap" has evidently been reduced to around 3 hours. That might have contributed to Williams' decision.Indeed, just saw that.

And now it's confirmed again that Albon won't start.
I didn't say brexit has anything to do with this thread (it would be off topic to discuss brexit in this thread anyway). What has Brexit got to do with anything. So a piece of tourist publicity for the Greenwich Museum bigs up the establishment of the term GMT 140 years ago, and its official rerplacement with UCT in 1972.![]()
What is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) - and why does it matter?

And then trying to get back into the track, managed to end up in the gravel and stuckLance Stroll, after having his car rebuilt after qualifying, has now managed to crash on the formation lap…
Any other driver would be hung up by their short and curlies for that. Daddy owns the company so a mechanic will get the chop!Lance Stroll, after having his car rebuilt after qualifying, has now managed to crash on the formation lap…
