A great game for the neutrals, but not one that does a whole lot to show the quality of football in the second tier. Having led twice before falling behind, not a terrible result- it stops the rot at least. However there's a lesson in there somewhere about signing a defender on loan from Manchester City and expecting them to be the finished article.

An excellent night out despite the rain. A gritty match but overall I thought Bury AFC were the (slightly) better team. The ground seemed full, but perhaps everyone was crowded under the roofs.

After defeating a team last week from a higher level of football in the FA Cup 3rd qualifying round, Hyde had the tables turned on them by a team from a lower division of the Northern Premier League in the FA Trophy. They had home advantage in both those two matches. That brought an end to a long run of victories in both league and FA competition matches.

Huddersfield Town 2 - 0 Hull City

A stupidly early noon kick-off thanks to Sky (and West Yorkshire police, who seem to think that this fixture is a tinderbox despite zero evidence to support it), this wasn't a vintage performance by any means but it's a first win for new head coach Mark Fotheringham (who? ). Also a first clean sheet of the season, thanks in part to Hull City thinking they were Hull Kingston Rovers when in front of goal. At the end of the day a win is a win... I don't expect to reach the heights of last season but we can at least see the green shoots of recovery!

Yet another shambolic showing from the officials, but we got the points and that's all that really matters.

I remember him as a kid at Celtic - we had high hopes for him but things didn't work out. Glad to see he's still in football - a decent lad by all accounts.

To be honest I'd never heard of him until he was linked with the head coach position at Huddersfield. I was a bit sceptical about whether it was a smart move for that reason (though I'll readily concede that I hadn't heard of David Wagner or Carlos Corberan until they were linked with us either). My first impression based on his introductory press conference was that he was the "cheap" option, and after the first game (a heavy defeat at Reading) I wasn't convinced. He does come across as very passionate and determined, if not the most eloquent of coaches. Still a lot of work to do and plenty of room for improvement, but the squad of mostly young players seem to be responding to his methods.

I genuinely think its a mediocre league this year. (Not saying that's the reason you are second). We've been battered quite a few teams this season and I've not gone away thinking they are a good side like in previous seasons? A good run of form like you've had can really shoot you up the league..

In other news 4-0 down after 20 minutes against Hereford brought it back to 4-2, terrible decision by the Lino to make it 4-3. Just not good enough some of these players.

One clothes line tackle that led to a penalty for the offending player, then two handballs by scoring players that VAR seemed to not give a fig about in our game against West Ham yesterday. As Danny Murphy said on MotD2, it should have been 1-0 Fulham, not 3-1 West Ham!

Beck makes a huge difference at that level. A regular scorer who can also handle all the Billy Heath stuff.

I know Darlo are now " full time part time " with 3 sessions a week but I'm still surprised that he didn't get a full time professional offer.

Obviously the offer made to him was a good enough one to dissuade the others.

Full house/all ticket expected for the York home tie. Actually not quite a full house, 2000 tickets with 400 of those for York due to segregation, so technically 500 under capacity to allow for no-go zones and better viewing for everyone else.

Also no pitch-side alcohol; so that and segragation is something us AFC fans aren't used to! Hmmm...just like being back at Gigg although 2000 in a packed staduim will be better than 2000 spread around one that holds 11,000.

AFC's league performance, however, is stuttering think it's p10, W 6 L 4.

The group that currently "owns" Gigg, BFCSS and the "phoenix" club Bury AFC both have memberships and there is currently a vote r/e merging the two so AFC will play at Gigg should the vote be yes.

Some supporters of the former still cling on to Bury FC, it hasn't died/liquidated and still technically exists in the hands of Dale (*I think) and don't want a merger, they want the "real" club back @ Gigg. Some of the latter are worried about the cost and sustainability of returning to Gigg, a large stadium with very few opportunities for external income.

If the vote is "no" then AFC will continue to exist playing at Radcliffe, it is difficult to imagine how another BFC could restart at Gigg without the sheer number of AFC fans/members onboard. Not even sure what league FC would be allowed to join, unlikely to be one of the non-league steps 1 - 6.

With hindsight it would (to me) have been better if the club had been liquidated, ground sold to pay the debtors, therefore a brand new club could have been formed with the potential to have a new ground (small capacity at first) virtually in the town centre which would be part of a council leisure development.

But hey, we are where we are!

Sounds messy! It was indeed Dale I was censoring the name of. I'm just glad he wasn't a football man, otherwise it might have been his hometown club that he shafted! Our own owner Dean Hoyle has made a few mistakes over the years, but I do wish the "Hoyle Out" mob would have a bit of perspective.

But two things.

1 - he got us out of conference north. His football worked at that level

2 - he’s a really nice bloke. I had a chat with him at the Alfreton FA trophy game last season and he came across really well. Honest, humble, genuine

You know more than me. We certainly don't have the budget to support anything close to full time. I wasn't sure we had gone 3 session a week but happy if we have! Beck is a really good player and we don't really just hit balls at him. We have a lot better players than that. The difference this season seems to be that we are able to nick games 1-0. beck is also a lot better player than just the kind of big lumper that Heath likes!

We are all surprised Beck didn't get a pro offer. Perhaps being part time suits him. He has also played for Darlo before so perhaps wanted to come back.

I have watched enough lower level football so I'm not a football purist, however, what I can say is that under Billy I left a game before FT for the 1st time in my life, in fact they had to open the gates for me I gave up that early!!

It was v Barrow in the 2nd season ( after promotion) it's the worst game of football I have ever seen.

I know that it takes 2 sides to make a game but I don't think I went back that season until he had been sacked.

The very same. He managed a fair few clubs in the North West throughout the eighties and nineties. This was in the late 2000s so he was very much a dinosaur in footballing terms by then.
