I wonder which panel actually judges the performance of a referee in this World Cup, as logic should decree that only the better referees should officiate from the Quarter-Finals onwards.

Brazil scrapping through with the one man advantage. Clearly nothing at all phishy with this tournament, Brazil's name has already engraved on the trophy and if you look hard enough, Brazil v Argentina is listed as the final on the FIFA website.

Maybe a cultural thing. One of my favourite bands from way back when was Brasilian and had a bassist referred to as Paulo Junior. God knows who Paulo Senior was, probably his dad.

Thinking of Argentina, what reason is behind the omission from Carlos Tevez from their World Cup squad, as he had quite a good season in Italy whilst playing in Serie A.

I gave up watching the Argentina v Belgium game at half-time as it was only a tad more interesting that the England v Costa Rica game....and we all know how much that match had the England fans on the edge of their seats with exicitement, or not as may be the case..

Just making a comparison between two teams in the World Cup tournament about goals being conceded in normal and extra time, but ignoring penalty shoot outs:-
Costa Rica.....5 matches...2 goals conceded

Not bad is it? Costa Rica have clearly been better than England. This is not surprising because Costa Rica act as a team whereas England act as 11 players. They think about matters on the pitch instead of sustaining injury to keep them out of their lucrative club games or thinking about how this is cutting into their holidays. Perhaps most of all Costa Rica's players (along with teams like Nigeria, USA and Mexico to name but three) have pride in playing for their national team?

Hyde, after two years in the heady heights of the Conference Premiership, now are back in somewhat less exalted company this season in the Conference North.

We start on Saturday, 9th August, at home against that well known "northern (?)" side, Oxford City. What an amazing geographical "North" league this is, to be sure. We also have games against other such "northern (?)" teams such as Brackley Town, Leamington, Worcester City and Lowestoft Town.

Perhaps if I look really hard enough at the fixtures, there might be other strangely geographically challenged teams there, such as Fort William and Strathspey Thistle...

Having scraped a promotion in the most dramatic of fashions, my lot are rewarded witrh an opener at Aldershot. We get Chester (who survived courtesey of Hereford's problems) as our Christmas derby, and oddly, Gateshead as our August/Easter one. And I've alredy heard at least half a dizen fans at the opening friendly voicing a very pessimistic outlook for the season.

I think the jury may still be out on him, but I personally am not filled with confidence regarding his ability as a manager. If the words of my Huddersfield Town supporting mates are to be believed, the future looks bleak.

The ownership situation certainly does not help.

I feel a slight sense of sympathy for Small Heath supporters in a funny way.
