Van Persie has been an inspired signing of an experienced top level forward with a great deal of experience of football played at a high standard. I am sure that many of Arsenal's supporters really miss his presence in their team this season.

This comment might sound controversial but it was 2 'lucky' balls which made Van Persie's 2nd goal tonight, if the ball was played a fraction harder or softer it wouldn't of been as good as it was. Personally I like the goals which has a good build up rather than hoofing it up there but I am not taking it away that it was a good goal, but that is about it, not a world class or goal of the season/century. I thought Rafael's goal at Loftus Road was by far much better, the technique he had to do to hit it first time, keep it low was really good, many people would sky it over the stand

I only wished for one thing before he left Arsenal and that was that he had played more games when we needed him the most, spending 8 years at a club and only being fit for 3.9 of them is a very poor return.

He had one good season for Arsenal and that was last season, the previous seven seasons was all about injuries and long term lay offs. A nice way to treat those who looked after him in those long, long dark days of hospitals and treatment tables.

I hope that Ivan Gazidis, Stan Kroenke and Arsene Wenger were at Old Traffold at the invitation of Alex Ferguson, first of all to show the former two what its like to win a trophy and to show the latter what he has failed to do for the last 9 years.

I think that it will be the last two years that will remain freshest in the minds of the vast majority of football supporters. I see Petr Cech, from that bastion of club morality, is complaining about Suarez and his continual niggling fouls. Does he not realise that that is what goes on in a penalty area all the time? Or is he spotting a bandwagon and jumping on? I am pleased to see at least some coverage asking the question I suggested yesterday - and has not been answered - why is this incident deserving of a long ban when more violent dangerous play is often just shrugged off?

Let us not view both matters in terms of comparative transgressions. Let us view both of these separately with the severity that both that should be be judged for the offences that were committed.

That is ducking the issue, somewhat. But what I find fascinating is the outrage, horror, general extreme reaction caused by a silly act that actually caused the "victim" no harm whatsoever. It is as if it was, in some way, "unmanly" ("childish" is the most common term used), and damages the reputation not only of the sport but also those who play it. And no one seems able to explain this.

Almost all of Arsenal's problems, not just this season, are not upfront.

20-30 goals per season? Which van Persie were you watching? In the last two seasons at Arsenal he scored 48 league goals (around 60 in all competition), in the preceding six seasons he scored 48 league goals (a little over 70 in all competition).

Sorry to see that you feel that I had not made my point clear that I feel that both types of offences are deserving of approbation and censure of the football governing body. My posting was solely with regard to the "biting" incident and you may have been confusing my posting with that of another forum member on the other unrelated matter of violent dangerous play, as I have no recollection of making a posting that made reference to that type of offence.

With regard to the previous "biting" incident that occurred when Suarez was playing in Europe, did not the ruling football authorities in that country view the matter as being serious enough to apply a period of match-ban ?

If you can't be certain a player is offside then it isn't offside. If you can only tell someone is a few cm offside in replays, then you can't give them as offside because in real time from the touch line you could never be certain. So Manchester United's goals aren't against either the spirit or the letter of the law, so what's the complaint?

In this season to date in the English Premiership, Manchester United have scored 78 goals in 34 matches. I wonder what the actual goals-scored tally would resemble if our very own RailUK forums football pundit panels' assessment of offside goals from that total were shown as being deducted..

Bayern have been lethal this season, whilst Barca were woeful v AC first leg and scrapped past PSG in the last round and without Messi look quite average. Perhaps this sucking up to Barca will now stop, Bayern are the new force in Europe and hopefully this has really sent out a message that Bayern are currently the best team on the planet by a mile.

I thought it was fantastic viewing. Barcelona have bored the life out of me for a few years now, it is great to see a team take them apart. The controversy over a couple of the goals, Gomez goal: There is no doubt he is offside, but it is so close and happens so quickly the officials have an impossible job. The challenge by Muller in the build up to Robben's goal should, of course, have been a foul, but the biggest question has to be asked of the official behind the goal, 6 yards away and failed to see two 6 foot plus men colliding? How long before these pointless officials are removed? I can't recall any decisions made by these officials.

They may well have seen it but I don't think they are allowed to signal a foul. I imagine goal line technology will see them gone.
