Train services seem more certain and predictable, even if thats not the case all the time. Id rather wait in a railway station , than a bus stop next to a busy road, ' oh the neighbours , work colleagues will see me waiting for the bus' .

Yeah I stay near 2 busy roads and it's a nightmare. The only thing that helps near me is that all of the buses are frequent so reliability being bad is far less of an issue

Yeah 15 mins on a 1. 2 and 6 are completely different though

Takes me a whole hour to get to the City Centre.

Few funny things happened yesterday.

Was on 6 from Union St to East Kilbride. Noticed on bus stop bus time display the next 6 was a Busby only one. Right after a 6 rolls in with East Kibride on front !

Get to the flyover at the Holiday Inn, East Kilbride. Driver stops the bus, turns out this bus was the Busby terminator and he forgot. I could of walked home from there but needed to go aldi, luckily a 6 came five mins later.

Secondly , i ramdomly took the 29 from Shawlands to Newton Mearns, Few people using it to Hillpark (Strange wee scheme in middle of big houses) . I was only person after Hillpark and driver didnt know the route in Newton Mearns , neither did i . I didnt have data on my phone and no wifi, must be hassle using wi fi .

Wondering how this route is still going rather the the 31 etc.

The 29/29A/129 is an SPT tender but it was always fairly busy when I used it before Covid. Tend to get a lot of older folk using it from Shawlands to Mansewood/Hillpark and then a few from there into Newton Mearns for the Asda

Before the Covid 19 crisis were any of the Glasgow E40H hybrids (39101 series) still on the road or were they all out of service? Thanks.

Scotstoun had them, i seen one on the 6a other week. Not had one on 6 for a long time, maybe not even this year. They were unreliable even when new. Slippy seats too.

The evening and Sunday 129s go to the city centre from Mansewood but other than that it doesn't really need to anymore. 38 is a lot quicker to Newton Mearns and there's a fair load of buses to Shawlands from the city centre

The 129 was actually busy coming out the City up to Shawlands most evenings. On occasions it could have a standing load as anybody going from Town to Shawlands would jump on it. There was regulars late on used it Shawlands to Hillpark.

Yeah I used it once in the evenings when out a wander about 3 or 4 years ago and it was decently loaded. Think there's so many buses during the day in normal circumstances though so it would be a waste of resources to fund it to the city centre then. Feel like it's one of those services that's constantly been with First except the switch due to covid

Seems to be all solos these days.

Had a wee streetlite on the 6 this morning, not the most suited for morning peak. Seen another on the 2.

Noticed the one has lost most of its E300S.

Today? Whilst I wouldn't take bustimes.org as being the most accurate source of information they do list 67711-15, 67717, 67719, 67721-26, 67728-29, 67731-33, 67766-69 and 67771 as having been on various variants of 'the one' today which is by far the majority of Dumbarton's allocation. Don't know if the extras between Clydebank and the City are still running to know what is on those though.

Maybe my eyes were playing tricks. Noticed eclipses on quite a few one services.

Yes seen some on the Clydebank extras and a few Ballochs. What happened to the branded one deckers?

Noticed a few B9TLs on the 2, 3, 9, X8 and 90. They badly need refurbed inside.

The B7RLEs could have been refurbed back in the day and used on the 1 services. They have good acceleration and they are good sturdy buses.

It'll be interesting to see how many buses First choose to buy in for Glasgow for the LEZ. Alexander Dennis having problems and job cuts won't help either tbh. Probably a lot of transfers into Glasgow plus service cuts will cover what's needed

The company has applied for funding to retrofit 160 buses. There will be no new buses for a while.

Thanks for the info. Did think that would be the case

Out of curiosity, how much does retrofitting generally cost?

You say that but the full B7TL fleet are up for renewal as are the B7RLEs within the next few years. That’s not including the pre-2005 stuff still running around. I get certain services have been reduced/axed however there is still a deadline looming and not every bus on the road just now will be retrofitted. I highly doubt the B9TLs will be done as some of them are about 13 years old already. They account for a massive amount of the fleet. New stock must be due

B9TLs are solid buses and First, I believe, aim for a usable lifespan of 18 years on their vehicles so that's another 5-6 years for a big part of the double decker fleet. Not the least likely to be fitted.

The funding is for over 160 buses. This plus the buses that are already Euro 6 will allow the target for the next stage of LEZ to be met. There will be no new buses for the foreseeable future. Costs have to be cut. The government funding of services is due to end in November.

As I've said elsewhere, the government should not be cutting the funding until they allow for full capacity to return. The operators should not have to pay for running half-empty buses because guidelines force them to.

If the 160 is approved, and the fleet size reduction envisaged does happen, they may not need to buy that many new buses in future to meet the full LEZ bus requirements.
