Does anyone know of a decent recording of a pre-refurbishment class 50? Everything I've come across is after.....

How does DP2 differ from a Class 50 ; anyone have any audio?

Going off at a slight tangent, do any audio recordings exist of the BR gas turbine locos - 18000, 18100 or GT3?

Years ago I came across a LP called Power of The Deltics. It was recordings of Deltics taken at various locations on the ECML.

Not quite. 43167 went to the Eastern as soon as it was converted to VP185 in early 1996 - it was planned as part of the test programme to evaluate it on a different duty cycle. GNER reverted it to Valenta in July 2001 because it was non-standard. So it had five years on the East Coast as a VP185.

The S&C Diesels video has been visually restored and sound track added post production. So I don't think the sounds used are necessarily genuine.

That helps explain the only run I had with 43167 on the Eastern.
25/08/00 43096 and 43167 did the 0800 Aberdeen - Kings Cross, which I joined at Doncaster. (That wasn't a booked stop, but the ECML was in uproar because the Deanside Dogfood train had derailed at Hambleton).
43167 disgraced itself by shutting down entirely at Peterborough, leaving 43096 to struggle on alone.
We arrived at Kings Cross at 15:55, and the set formed the 16:00 Kings Cross - Aberdeen. The fitters attended, and eventually battered 43167 back into life, the train departing about 35 minutes late.
You can understand why GNER grew fed up with it!
