The 304s were certainly very lively units.
I well remember travelling on a Trent Valley stopper in one of these units between Nuneaton and Rugby. I had the carriage to myself (possibly the entire train) and it was the one and only time in all my journeys that I wondered if I'd actually arrive at Rugby in one piece and still on the rails. Certainly my most scary rail journey, it was that rough and unnerving.
