Well then I would say that it was the 19:30 from Kings Cross due Newcastle 23:41 (actual arrival: 23:39). It now appears to be making it's way to Heaton.

Yes it would you are quite right...Was it actually moving until about 10-15 mins ago? Because if it wasn't then it was probably just stabled in NCL for a while. If not then I guess it's run ECS all the way to Heaton presumably a positioning move.
Edit: Actually looking at it the 18:19 was cancelled due to an earlier broken down train so I would guess this was a positioning move to ensure that there is a set in the right place even though the 18:19 didn't run.

Yeah, I was in the process of typing a similar observation out, but it was of course speculation. 
Is there anyone reading this who has access to the more secretive databases of the rail industry?

Yes.... unfortunately, given the (perhaps sad) fact that there is no google streetview for railways, all it can do is find the nearest streetview street, and try to point towards where the train actually is 
If this were a coach service, then it would be a lot more useful!

Actually, in some of the shots where the railway line can be seen, the train image appears in exactly the right place
BTW, the "A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly" message now keeps coming up, but it's OK on Firefox.

I should add, that I still see it displaying speed at (approx) half the actual speed too.

It's good when you're actually on a train, because you get an idea of where exactly you are.

That misses the main point of the map, which is for when you're on-board an East Coast service.
When viewed from home (or anywhere that isn't an East Coast train), then it's just data from a seemingly random unit that's used to render the map, so that something is displayed.

Assuming you're connected to the WiFi, yes.

We believe it's this train (unless the feed has changed!), and it's quite easy to work out which service it's on, from the live departure boards.

That's when I get the (approx.) half speed display appearing.
The 'at home' remote tracking of 82218 seems to display the correct speeds.
Yes, as an improvement on the minescule map on the welcome page from the on-board server (just as explained in this thread's first post).
No it's that exact DVT that we're tracking it's definitely not an HST.

I get script errors too, then IE9 locks up and I have to reboot.
Been happening for about a week now, after about half a dozen position updates.
Will have to stop using it unless this is fixed.
