Yay, looks like everyone's favourite DBSO will be part of the new Glow-Ex trains!

Also looks like the Cargo D Mk2s are to loose their BR Blue Grey Livery, again unfortunatly in favour of DRS's livery.

http://www.wnxx.com/content/010113/coach.htm

Shame. One of the reasons why DRS were apparently interested in the ex Cargo D mk2s was for looking into the Charter Market. Now, where have we seen DRS Liveried rolling stock previously in the charter market  ....

(Incidently, some of the Ex Virgin, Ex DRS, now DB Regio have been moved up to Long Marston {ex Bletchley} , still complete with DRS & Ocean Liner Express branding)

For some reason I now cannot wait to get trainspotting in February. I don't know if the glow-ex will initially start with DBSOs, don't know how much work is required for them to be used again.
37261 is now in XHNC pool and 20305 has been stopped with a fault (can't remember what though)

Thanks, Sam

I am glad the Mark 2s are being repainted tbh, I really dislike BR blue & grey. I can't understand why DRS are not using their own Mark 3s instead of Mark 2s though. If I was them, I would try and fit TDM to a 47 or 57/3 and run the train with Mark 3s and one of the many DVTs that are sitting in Long Marston gathering dust and mould. Even if it had to be a DBSO, why use Mark 2s instead of the Mark 3s? :P

I actually quite like that shot for some strange reason!

Nothing strange about it, the ONE livery was glorious and I have never forgiven NXEA for killing it :P

The DBSOs are going to need a fair amount of work, from what I hear there is quite alot of corrosion damage and they need blue star multiple working fitted so they can work with 37/4s. :)

Anyone got a definitive date for the start of the Glow-Ex??

I've heard second week in Feb, but that's not from official sources.

They do need alot of work. Im sure i posted somewhere on here a while ago that their going to need a fair amount of new metalwork - mostly on the front, cabs going to need a good refurbishment (especially if they want them as good as the NR ones), a good thorough overhaul - as Anglia's Mk2s were never the best, as well as a good tidy up inside.

It would of course be difficult for DRS to use their own Mark 3s because they haven't got any

A DBSO would be a better option than a DVT as the former has a passenger compartment whereas a DVT does not, I can't see a demand for so much bicycle and luggage space on those services.

It's a shame they are repainting them from B&G though. Still it'll be better to look at than the large amounts of maroon we see over here...

Hence why i said looking into the charter market. Anyway, i cant see DRS Using 20 / 24 Odd Mk2s on the Cumbrian Coast service, not unless their planning to run every service along the line.

And they've got to find uses for the ETH Fitted 37/4s, 47s & 57/3s somehow - not all of those will be needed on the West Coast, GEML & Cumbrian Coast contracts.

Oh, what happened to the Stobart Pullman or the Ocean Liner Express?

Adam :D

Stobart Pullman failed after a few trips - Largely down to a severe lack of bookings.

Ocean Liner Express also ended up being cancelled in the end. That one was intended to be a joint venture between DRS & UK Railtours, in the end falling on it's self when DRS had the bizzare management changes of 2009 - Where upon they couldnt get the stock ready in time, had problems with the Mk1 Kitchen Cars (One Ex Blue Pullman, brought from the ashes of FM Rail - later used in the also failed Stobart Pullman, Both laterally sold to Cargo D), Problems with the locos etc... Which in the end, led to John Farrow moving over to the DBS / Riviera Trains Alliance.

In the end, the Mk3s were sold in 2010 to DB Regio - some i think ending up in the Chiltern / Arriva Trains Wales Mk3 Fleets, whilst the remainder have been moved out from Wembley & Bletchley to Long Marston.

57010 is released from overhaul as well as 57307 which is in the drs livery without the drs compass logo but still with its nameplate on!!! The pair will be dragged back to crewe from eastleigh behind 47818.

57313 to 316 are not going to to be with drs as there are destind to go to wcrc.

Almost a pity that DRS won't be running the DBSOs with some mark 3s and a 47.

And in Blue Grey (Ok, not entirely correct for a DBSO) or Intercity :) Are DRS's 47s fitted with Blue Star or is it green dot? multi working?.

I am pleased that 57313-316 have been sold to WCRC, they need them!
I'll update the list soon, haven't got time this evening (iPhone thrown it's dummy out the pram, so to speak )
Thanks, Sam

Not just with it's nameplate on but it along with the Thunderbirds plate have been moved to the usual DRS position behind the cab door. Nice to see it will be kept :D

Is that the one still in INTERCITY swallow livery (under the ONE vynals)? I'd reaaly like to see a Swallow liveried rake of mark2s, including a DBSO, in service (even if just a spare rake, with a TOC's livery on the main services rakes it is the spare for).

If I was them, I would try and fit TDM to a 47 or 57/3 and run the train with Mark 3s and one of the many DVTs that are sitting in Long Marston gathering dust and mould.
Agreed, why modify coaches, DVTs and 67s for Chiltern/WSMR and ATW's loco-hauled operations when you could just fit TDM to some 57s (or something) and run with any DVT or DBSO? Just seems daft to modify every aspect of the train when alterations just to the locos would suffice if a different method was used.

are both 37402 and 405 close to returning to traffic?

I believe both are now ready to go, 37405 should now be in DRS colours.

Apparently there are some training runs to take place between Crewe and Stoke via Manchester (5Z45 & 5Z46). They should have started on the 07th and run until the 25th. Aside from the timings I've not heard any gen regarding what's hauling them, so are they running yet?

Is there any significance to the routes that 5Z45/6 are taking or is it purely traction knowledge??

I glimpsed what was presumably 5Z45 heading south through Stockport on the Up Slow at about 12:30 today. A few empty Mk.2's topped and tailed by locos in DRS livery - didn't see any numbers I'm afraid.
Update: returned north through Cheadle Hulme a few minutes early, about 14:02. Again only glimpsed it, but rear loco was a 47.
