I've placed a short YouTube in the photography section showing some photos looking inside a B23 train which were taken whilst standing at an open doorway, plus images looking through windows and also footage of the scrolling message on the 'next train' describer advising passengers that trains shown as going to Beckton are test trains which are not carrying passengers.

As you will see, at times it seemed as if there are more test trains than trains carrying passengers.

Recently I was able to take a few photos inside one of the new B23 DLR trains whilst standing just outside an open doorway and also looking through the window glass. I've combined these with a little moving video of these trains plus the 'next train' describer at Stratford station, platform 17...

I think the simple answer to that is there are no B23 "ghost" services into and out of Bank. I've said before that I think there's too much chance of disruption to real services if they did. It appears that the B23 stock are just taking the paths of the currently cancelled Beckton to Stratford International services, the purpose being just to confirm that the B23 and earlier stock can run somewhere on the system simultaneously and therefore should be able to operate anywhere on the system simultaneously. Well, that's my theory anyway!

I agree with your theory and whilst the new trains might start passenger services on the route to Stratford International they will eventually start being used throughout the system.

Perhaps for Bank there will be some non-passenger weekend test running to confirm that all is well - with all passenger services going to Tower Gateway.

There's no passenger service into either Bank or Tower Gateway this weekend. I wonder ...

The B23 has been to Bank and Tower Gateway a number times already

Not seen this mentioned here. But i spotted one of the new units being delivered today. They are being road transport in. It was on the M20 junction 3 around 2pm. Unit number 219.

Not sure exactly what services it is on. Just seen that one tweet showing it. But it looks like it is currently on the route Woolwich Arsenal route as i think one of the photos is London City Airport station.

I was beginning to think they would never enter service. But good to see one finally in service. Hopefully the rollout will pick up now that one is in service.

It's running Stratford International to Woolwich Arsenal. Just one unit for now (209) but will increase gradually.

The new B23 Stock trains appear to have the same exact automated announcements as the older B90 / B92 / B2K / B07 / B09 stocks have:

They have just installed the same sound files. It is the same lady (an employee of a company called Parlourwood that was contracted to provide them) that has been used since 2004 on the trains.

We were originally told that the B23 Stock would use the new Acapela Elloise TTS (Text To Speech) voice just like the 2024 Stock trains. So i am presuming that the use of the old files is perhaps temporary until they get the TTS set up.

I wonder why they chose the Woolwich line. Hopefully they roll out the next few soon, and some more deliveries arrive soon aswell. Beckton line could really do with getting back to 12tph.

Probably makes the most sense considering the cars on this route have been shortened in recent history. It’s also my understanding that DLR demand West of Custom House has decreased due to the XR interchange

I'm trying to remember how turnarounds at Stratford International work, would it have left again as the 15:32 or would it have sat there until the 15:42 with another train on the 32?

Now the B23 is technically in service, I wonder how long it'll take for all the trains to come into service? I assume it'll be a one in, one out type situation as the B90s and B92s are taken out of service.

Currently on it, just left Pontoon Dock on the 1656 Woolwich to Stratford. Very nice. But full of veg trying to nab the front seats!
