I think the Glasgow trains will still be shown as such on the boards at Euston because some passengers will have Euston-Glasgow Advances and so will need to be able to check their booked trains. This doesn't apply to FCC's "Foxton" trains.

This makes me wonder if Virgin will let people for stations north of Warrington that it's quicker to wait for the next train then

I suspect that the trains via Birmingham will have cheaper advances than those that go straight up the Trent Valley.

This now has been sorted. There is a 22:50 Euston-Piccadilly, set down at Stoke, Macclesfield and Stockport. The 22:00 service will terminate at Crewe and run using a Voyager

Also uplifts at Watford apparently. Not a bad run that, slows to Hanslope then slows from Adswood Rd (Stockport). Needless to say there's an absolute ton of pathing and engineering allowance too.

Pathing because it is very likely following something. Engineering allowance south of Hanslope to cover the two track worksites, 10 at Hilmorton to cover going via Northampton if required. 10 at Colwich to cover any two track on the Trent Valley with worksites.

If it is a slow line block south of Hanslope with nothing on the TV and depending on what that is following it could arrive at Picc a lot lot earlier.

Interestingly, Morecambe gets trains to Barrow at 10:03 and 13:54, a 22:51 to Preston and an 08:22 to Carlisle via Barrow taking only 4h16!

The early Windermere continues, while there are Preston - Morecambe's at 11:05 and 21:06.

From Ilkley, 07:50 to Bradford retimed to 07:48, 08:17 to Leeds becomes 08:15 and 20:21 to Leeds becomes 20:29.

Interesting how Morecambe services are being more & more merged with Cumbrian Coast services, it'll create some interesting new journey opportunities, although I still wonder if its also a touch of positioning moves/operational convenience...

According to the draft NR printed timetable 2250 ex-Euston also sets down at Nuneaton (0039). I don't have table 65, so can't comment about Stafford or elsewhere. Also, does not run Mondays (i.e. Tuesday-Friday evenings only).

Most nights it will follow the 2234 LM EUS-MKC from WFJ, so the WFJ-MKC section will be slower than usual.

Thats really good news. Im sure that a later train on the now booming Manchester route from london will be warmly welcomed even if it is a tad on the leisurley side.

So if everywhere north of Watford is set down, does that mean on occasion it can run very early if needs be (as timings are long)?

Hopefully. You then get the punters moaning that there pick-up isn't due for 25 minutes. Can't win

That's a tough one! You'd hope the poor other half would be in bed and they'd either left their car to self-drive home, or a cab. Would in many cases be expensable anyway!

Regarding the southbound trains waiting in Wolverhampton for 13 minutes, won't that be really irritating for anyone wanting to travel from Glasgow, or any point on the WCML north of Crewe, to Birmingham or (by connection at Birmingham) points south?

Surely it's important to preserve a fast service Birmingham to Scotland and vice-versa? Hanging around at an intermediate station for 13 minutes basically means that IMO the southbound service can no longer really be called an express inter-city service. Is there really the demand for these trains to run through from Scotland to London to warrant sacrificing a fast Birmingham service from points north of Crewe?

Is Inverness - London an express inter-city service?

Guess not in the northern part of its route, but Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh are all large cities and surely should be linked by a fast service, with minimal hanging-around time in stations, I would have thought.

I'm meaning that it has a similar wait at Edinburgh (to the wait at Wolverhampton that you feel disqualifies the Virgin service from being an express inter-city service)

Besides, if you really need to be in Birmingham ten minutes earlier, you can change at Wolverhampton for another service.

In fact, if you're heading for somewhere in the southern half of the XC network, you'd be better off changing at Wolverhampton instead of Birmingham anyway, so those journeys aren't affected.

Got caught out by that one the first time I got the 2330 out of Kings X to Leeds. That's set down only everywhere.

We'd booked a cab and didn't realise until just before Leeds that we were about half an hour before the timetabled time of 0236.

The cab did make it a little earlier than we'd booked but we still had about a 20 minute wait.

Done that one before with the hire in VP185 powecar up front. Did the Knottingley diversion (didn't know about it at the time that this can take this route) and arrived 25 up, my 10 or so minutes connection onto the TPX to Manchester turned into about half an hour!

It's consistently rather late anyway so I doubt it will make much difference, timekeeping seems to be quite awful on these services.

It has now been confirmed that the improved Westbury - Melksham - Swindon rail service is to go ahead for a 2-year trial.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-24628756

Trains from Westbury to Swindon are to be increased from two to eight per day by Christmas, Wiltshire Council says.
The authority has given the go-ahead for a detailed contract and new timetable to be negotiated with train operator First Great Western.
The subsidised Trans Wilts Rail Service forms part of Wiltshire Council's Local Sustainable Transport Fund project.
It is hoped the new service will be ready to start operating on 8 December.
The plan also includes an additional four trains on Sundays throughout the year, with at least one seasonal service connecting with the existing Westbury-Weymouth service in each direction.
Councillor John Thomson, deputy leader, said the expanded service would bring "real social and economic benefits" to the people of Wiltshire.
But he said it was "important local people use and support the service to ensure it is viable into the future".
The subsidy will stop in two years when First Great Western's franchise ends.
Mr Thomson said the extra services would not last beyond then if people did not use them.

Why is the timetable changing on 8 December when most of Europe changes on 15 December? The timetable change date has been harmonised for a number of years.

Can I ask what I would gain from becoming a member, I use this line everyday to travel to University and Work, I know the timetable off by heart and I have several ideas for improvement :D

We have regular meetings with managers of LM, Chiltern, Centro and Worcestershire County Council to discuss performance and to press for enhancements to both the timetable and station environment along the route, we also respond formally as a recognised stakeholder organisation to consultations for things such as specifications for franchise renewals. The greater our membership the more wheight these things carry.
We would be interested in hearing your ideas. As a member you also get the opportunity to attend our AGM and help shape the direction of the group, believe me it works, I spoke up at the last AGM and now find myself on the committee.

The connections they broke from stations south of Worcester to the XC network via Cheltenham when they improved the Hereford Sunday Service are sadly not in this list of improvements I see :(
