London Waterloo to Basingstoke, Southampton and Bournemouth; Monday Only
01:05 London Waterloo to Southampton Central will terminate at Basingstoke. A replacement bus service will operate to Southampton Central, calling to let passengers leave the train only at Winchester 02:58, Eastleigh 03:13, Southampton Airport Parkway 03:17, St Denys 03:2 and Southampton Central at 03:32.

A bus that only calls to let passengers leave the train? How does that work?

(Also that 03:2 is not a typo on my behalf.)

this and two others now don't stop at Reading, that's new, to decrease journey times until Stonehouse.

Taking Tuesdays as a weekday example, that's the only addition to the small list of passenger trains passing non-stop.

This Tuesday just gone:

1P16 & 1L20 have been non-stop for a while.

There was a peak London-Swansea which was non-stop too because there wasn't enough capacity for it to call at Reading, I'd imagine that's the reason the Cheltenham train isn't calling at Reading.

Evening all,

Just a heads up that the December 2013 TT changes are now starting to appear on the National Rail website. A new station for ATW on the Rhymney - Cardiff line also comes into use on 08th December.
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/48.aspx

Possible that not all the changes are up but some interesting stuff here so far IMO. Nothing else on the valley lines north of Cardiff so I wonder when the 30-minute Rhymney service will come in.

HTIOI,
Dave

According to VTManchester's tweet earlier, from Sunday there's a new 2250 London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly, arriving 0209. I like this, an alternative to a TPX overnighter! Routed via Stoke-on-Trent apparently.

Which station is opening on the Rhymney line?

So. Lots of new trains from Dorridge to Stratford Upon Avon. Seems a shame none of them stop at Lapworth, Claverdon, Bearley or Wilmcote.

Only one of the return workings calls at Lapworth. The other stations do not benefit at all.

That's a daft idea then ain't it! Granted, Lapworth is a very quiet station in the middle of the day (been there, seen it) as are Claverdon and Bearley (only person using both of them on my visits) but wouldn't have hurt to put them in as request stops.

Eagle: Thanks, looks like I'll have to return to t'Valley soon then :)

Adding in Claverdon and Bearley makes it tight with the single line reoccupation at Hatton North. There is 4½ minutes between the trains in opposite directions, add two open stops and that will shave 3 minutes off that margin making it a no go, adding them in as requests with no dwell times would also shave off around 2 minutes making it a bit too tight again. You don't want the southbound train hanging about on the mainline too much waiting for one to come off the branch.

Yes, it was mentioned for a bit from comment #94 - and there was a thread about it somewhere too. Set down only everywhere after Watford Junction.

How about, on alternate services, offering one of them as a request stop? I'm not sure how many journeys are made between Claverdon and Bearley (bearley any?!) but it's still possible on the Chiltern services. I expect it's more common that people from these places would want a trip to Stratford-upon-avon or Birmingham.

Shame the Mon-Sat Victoria - Dartford trains end so early still. The new 'late' train at 20:09 now runs to Dartford and not Barnehurst, progress!

Hartlebury Service Enhancement Press Event

02 December 2013

Hartlebury Rail Service is Best in 50 Years

Press call/Photo Opportunity – Hartlebury Station, Monday 9 December at 08.45

Residents of Hartlebury will benefit from the most frequent rail service in almost 50 years, thanks to the revised timetable that London Midland will implement on 8 December 2013.

For the first time, the new timetable will provide an hourly service between Worcester and Birmingham Snow Hill, providing passengers with much improved rail links to both cities.

Patrick Verwer, London Midland’s managing director said, “We are committed to providing quality journeys for everyone and I’m really pleased that we have been able to modify the timetable to provide a much improved service for Hartlebury’s residents”.

Mid Worcestershire MP, Peter Luff will join representatives from London Midland, Worcestershire County Council, Stourbridge Line User Group and Cotswold Line Promotion Group at Hartlebury station on Monday, 9 December at 08.45 to mark the introduction of the new service. Mr Luff will ‘wave off’ the 09.19 service from Worcester to Whitlocks End, which will stop at Hartlebury station for an extended three minute stop.

Stourbridge Line User Group Chairman, Rob Hebron said, "I am delighted that London Midland has decided to provide an enhanced service for Hartlebury. We have persistently requested this improvement and they have delivered. Not only is Hartlebury accessible throughout the day but the village is now plugged into the London Midland network, which is of considerable size.

He added, "It makes sense to fully utilise this station which is an ideal rail head for Stourport on Severn. If passengers support this service, as I believe they will, I'm sure London Midland will develop it further."

Julian Palfrey, Chair of the Cotswold Line Promotion Group said, “This is a real cause for celebration for Hartlebury’s rail users. We are moving from peak hour morning and evening commuter services, with no trains between 0900 and 1600, to double the number of trains calling”.

To mark the timetable revisions, London Midland will be providing one lucky person with a year’s free rail travel between Hartlebury, Worcester Foregate Street and Birmingham stations on the Snow Hill line. To be in with a chance of winning, simply make your way to Hartlebury station on Monday 9 December to ‘wave off’ the 09.19 service. The lucky winner will be picked at random.

The trains have a 22 minute layover is Stratford, so if there was any demand to stop the trains at Claverdon and Bearley, then this could be achieved by a later arrival and earlier departure in Stratford, maintaining the timings at Hatton north junction. I doubt however there would be much demand, especially at Bearley where any passengers would have to walk past the bus stop where the X20 provides an hourly service between Stratford and Birmingham.
