2035 is a particularly slow one.

But at least there's a train at 2224 - it only takes 15 minutes longer.

and Mon-Fri there's a fast at 2211.

Yeah that's what I meant And I know it's useless. The 2224 may well only take 15 mins longer - but it will also have a good chance of being a pacer. And that 15 mins, plus the fact it leaves a bit later, means that it doesn't catch any local connections out of Piccadilly, whereas the weekday 2211 does.

Ah,so it's not Sheffield to Manchester that's the problem, but Sheffield - Mauldeth Road?

When the 2211 runs, it arrives at Manchester Piccadilly at 2303, connecting to all stations to Chester, via both Altrincham and Warrington, Stalybridge, all stations New Mills Central (except Ardwick), stockport - Macclesfield, Buxton and Crewe all stations, and, yes, all stations to Manchester Airport. That's a lot of available connections for 11pm! (sadly, Liverpool is just missed).

However, the Northern service that arrives at 2339 misses all of those. Only the Airport itself, Bolton, Preston and Blackpool North are useful connections from that train. So I think, a rather justified request for later services as opposed to a selfish desire, as you hint!

Noticed ATW have moved the Ebbw Vale services to the Valley lines timetable booklet instead of where it was previously with the SWML services to Swansea/Chepstow etc.

What is the source of this information? Because unless I'm missing something really obvious (which can't be ruled out! ) the timetable runs until Saturday 16th May 2015 - along with all the other Northern timetables, including Table 82 for services through Bolton. Am I having a senior moment?

The source is me :P Seriously though, the Northern timetable itself states it's valid until then only (as berneyarms clarifies above). I was just attempting to join two and two together: I believe the work at Farnworth has been spoken of on here, and possibly the Toddy Curve thread mentioned some work at Darwen in connection with the extended loop there. I'll do some digging.

I presume the work will start over that weekend. TPE's Blackpool-Manchester timetable runs until 03 April 2014 so that would appear to concur.

Ah! Well I bypassed Northern's own timetables and went straight to the GBPTT on Network Rail's website - which definitely has Tables 82, 94 and 97 running throughout until May. Who to trust - Northern or ATOC?

(Incidentally, that link is to one of my own posts! I only make reference to work in July/August next year - which will completely b****r up the following timetable period! )

I suspect that most people would check a railway company's website before travelling on a bank holiday rather than rely on the normal timetable book?

I downloaded the full timetable yesterday and was looking at table 226.
The Lanark services have been switched to Central High Level and only run direct via Motherwell and Wishaw.
The Holytown loopers to Lanark are stopping. There won't be a direct service Motherwell-Holytown any more.
I wasn't previously aware that there were plans to do this. It's a good move for the inhabitants of Lanark, Wishaw etc - considerably improved journey time to Glasgow.

PS Forgot to mention that the Lanarks have migrated as well as being changed, they are now in 225 rather than 226.

Not all passengers are web users,however attention to detail should have ensured,it was glitch free, especially after consultation.In table one ,
I have found two bank holiday services have been removed between Chester and Wrexham, one a possible error the 0747 to Shrewsbury is shown to run,but the feeder to Wrexham 0700 is shown BHX from Salop.

Two VTs are shown to run, but are in fact BHX according to VT,
