Has anyone got any information on any changes for the December 2009 timetable. I have heard East Midlands Trains are introducing a 1/2 hourly service to Sheffield, does anybody know about other changes?

Timetables are normally released to the public about 4 weeks before they commence.

Surely that must cause issues with ticket booking though, given tickets can be booked up to 12 weeks in advance?

;) in some cases tickets aren't made available 12 weeks in advance - engineering works decided rather short term often cause havoc. No, I think the majority of it is sorted out 12 weeks in advance*, with Network Rail and the TOC ironing out any final issues with it. What I meant with my comment is the printed copies (and website PDFs) are made public 4 weeks prior to the changeover.

*I'm sure The Planner could confirm this one way or another when they read this topic :).

Your County Council dept that deals with transport, will have had a copy of the 2009 Dec timetable for consultation, as will every County Council in the UK.
Here in North Wales I have seen the ATW version, I must say this consultation is some kind of closely guarded secret, if all fails your County Council will have to submit a copy of all consultation to you under the F O I regulations.(this is the final stage though)

Your local Cllr should be able to see a copy, as the elected body they control your council and a Councillor will be the lead person, so your own Cllr should know who. Pester them and dont give up. PM me your Council and I will find out who you should ask.Another thought your local rail users Assoc may well know this info.

Consultation is now ended by the way.

SWT will introduce an hourly service between Waterloo and Exeter. This will mean that they stop running west of Exeter... Don't think there's anything else planned.

Everyone, NR and all the TOCs and FOCs, are supposed to bid T-12 so tickets can be reserved and diversionary paths found. The initial short term stuff is also meant to come in at T18, but changes can be made to that.

Some nameless TOCs dont bid short term to anything like those deadlines and are a proverbial pain the rear. Like Dan has said, engineering work causes havoc, even more so when it is cancelled than when it is a late addition. Late diagram changes also cause a nightmare when you are trying to platform a station.

Quite a bit happening with Scotrail. Source.

  • Glasgow Central-Edinburgh via Shotts will now have 2tph; one fast, one local. Cambuslang will no longer be served by Glasgow-Edinburgh trains.
  • Glasgow Central-Kilmarnock services will now be half hourly. Apparently, Dunlop and Kilmaurs were still only to be served hourly, but I'm not sure if this will still be the case. This will have an impact on Cathcart Circle and East Kilbride timings, although capacity should not decrease.
  • Additional morning trains from Ayr and Gourock will connect onto WCML services to London, but I don't know which service(s) they'll be connecting to.

Nothing seems set in stone about calling patterns on the "new" services as of yet. There may also be some other things further North, mostly re-timings, but these seem to be the most significant enhancements.

Arriva trains from Chester to Manchester Piccadilly will continue to Manchester Airport I believe.
Service from Aberystwyth to London Marylebone MAY begin.

That's the plan, but in the draft copy I've seen for North Wales they were still listed as terminating at Piccadilly. (There was an empty column added for the Airport, though.)

Confirmed empty col. We have shouted for the Nth Wales to Ringway service for years, the nearest we got to a direct service was the FNW ex Chester
around 5.30a.m. one service.

If there is capacity(not in summer) it could take some of the hundreds of thousand car/taxi/mini bus runs, but,but Wrexham to Ringway via road is
very cheap, so I hope ATW bear this in mind for Nth Wales and not make it
a Piccadilly/Ringway extra service due to prices. Sunday is a current problem, all change at Chester Man Pic services end there,as do Winter
up services.

I believe this was an aspiration for Dec 2009, simply by extending those trains that terminate in Derby and tweaking this to get as close as possible to a clock-face timetable. However I do remember that a number of Sheffield / London trains will take the slightly longer route into Sheffield (via ..... ? the diversionary route used while the Bradway Tunnel was closed) arriving into or departing from the station from/to the north.

I'm sorry, I'm not following.

Sorry I was just thinking on prices of rail travel as opposed to the cheap
road services from here to Ringway. I hope ATW will not make it prohibitive
to use the service to Ringway on price.

When I put just another service from Man Picc to Ringway, I was meaning the price of rail travel from Nth Wales to Manchester.

One would hope deals can be done with travel firms, like they do with Stenna etc now.

It is an excellent initiative by ATW and long overdue

Some NR offices are painfully slow updating TSDB too...

Engineering works at the end of the year to rebuild platforms 13 and 14 at Piccadilly will reduce capacity and could result in Llandudno services terminating at Oxford Road for a couple of months.

Should be done automatically with little human intervention, unless you are talking about VSTP stuff or schedules put in by control.

On 24/25 October, SWT have diversions after Woking via Chertsey/Staines on their long distance trains. The amended timings for Exeter services aren't showing in journey planners. (I believe these services are done by NR in Birmingham) Local Salisbury/Yeovil to Waterloo (as well as Weymouth and Portsmouth) services are correct which are done by NR Paddington.

Paddington control everything up to Pinhoe, Birmingham take it on after that. 24/25 October is 10 weeks out, so it could be a problem with FGW with their STP bids, or SWT. I cant speculate more without the details.

I have no idea about works affecting FGW. SWT had the same problem on the weekend of 17/18 October. I've been told there's a staf shortage in Brum and that's about it!

As much as I would love to comment on the internal politics/situation, I would probably end up on the 17:00 1P45.....
