Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone could explain why the DCR 56s always work out of Willesden instead of Chaddesden? Asking as I remember the Ravenhead sand was often worked by them before, but now neither of them have been on it since June.
Thanks

My guess is that the 56s working as a pair will reduce the load by one wagon, particularly at Eccles Road which is served by the same wagon rake as Ravenhead, profitable loads are very tight and one less wagon could make it uneconomic

Possible I guess, it's been suggested that 60099 could be leaving Leicester LIP on Thursday to work next weekends Ravenhead sand train, the 56s would be a handy stand by

There are no services to Grain or Cliffe next week due to a 9 day engineering blockade at Dartford

Question from me- nothing DCR using Tytherington since possibly the 5th February ? But a Freightliner 6A18 runs around the times of the DCR 6*02 (M or C or Z) headcode around the same time and the DCR path is missing from Realtimetrains. Is that the end of DCR at Tytherington for now ?

I've certainly not seen anything resembling an 'official' comment from DCR, various contributors to facebook sites have decided it was both a permanent end to 6B01 / 6M02 Tytherington services and a temporary break, maybe it's simply that Tytherington and Merehead produce different types of aggregate and the Merehead variety is what's required for the time being? I certainly recognise the names of facebook posters whose information is knowledge rather than guesswork so I'll wait until they comment on any return to Tytherington. The evening 6V37 / 6M29 services are, of course, still operating normally into and out of Tytherington

Thank you. I didn't see 6V37/6M29 on the lists but seems it ran Wednesday yes.

6B01/6M02 has finished. Replaced with the Merehead flow.

DCR return to Machen Quarry next week, running Tues & Thurs to Appleford.

Both Merehead and Tytherington are limestone quarries, so it may be that the origin of the trains also depends on the contracts for the supply of stone. Tytherington quarry is run by Heidelberg Materials (rebranded from Hanson in March 2025 to the name of the parent company) while Merehead is part of Holcim (rebranded to the name of the parent company in October 2023; previously Aggregate Industries).

Machen and Penmaenmawr are also operated by Heidelberg. Machen supplies limestone, while Penmaenmawr is hardstone (diorite) according to the Heidelberg website. I suppose Heidelberg might also vary the origin of their HS2 aggregate (e.g. between Machen and Tytherington) depending on production capacity or other considerations like the grades of stone needed.

Since it started work on HS2 in 2021, Holcim UK has also supplied over two million tonnes of bulk fill aggregates to the South(S)1 and 2 and North (N)1 and 2 segments of the project.
https://www.holcim.co.uk/news-and-resources/press-releases/HS2-One-Million-Supply-Milestone

We can supply key materials required for the HS2 project, including low carbon concrete for precast tunnel segments, sleepers and slab track, sprayed concrete, rail ballast and bulk fill aggregates.

Loaded being a relative thing as just over 5 wagons are full due to issues with the conveyor/loader in Penmaenmawr (a recurring issue)

A long and expensive trip for five wagons

As I understood it the plan was to use 60099 on this weeks Middleton Towers / Ravenhead sand, strangely no movements are showing on RTT for 60046 and wagons so they appear to still be at Ravenhead from last weekends 6M91 ** Just appeared on Rail Record for Thursday 1617 6D85 Ravenhead Sidings to Chaddesden **
