She played in two of the T20s earlier this summer against West Indies, took 1-35 in 4 overs and 1-10 in 4 overs in the two games, didn't need to bat in either game.

Duckett (rather than Plunkett!) was beaten by a slower ball getting a glance off the bottom of the bat; Crawley's was an absolute corker of a ball with a bit of away swing and a thin edge - both caught behind.

Have to agree it really was a brilliant catch, Jofra Archer took a wicket with the 3rd ball of his comeback with India 3-145 off 43 overs at the close.

Bonkers Blast match between Surrey and Glamorgan in London this evening. Glamorgan scored 222 and Surrey were 16-3 early on, which given an injury to Laurie Evans was effectively 16-4, and they ended on 224-4 with 5 balls to spare. Dan Lawrence scored 120*

What's the penalty for a slow over rate in red ball cricket? In the County Champonship they manage 96 overs a day so 90 should be easy providibg it doesn't rain.

I haven't been to a Test match for many years.

There hasn't been a specific reason, although availability has been a large part of why I haven't gone. Now that I'm retired, I do have more time and have thought of going to a Test this year or next year. However, a disincentive is definitely the feeling that if I did go, I'd be short-changed because they don't play all the overs during the first four days. Today, of course, has probably been the worse day, as there were fifteen (yes, fifteen) un-bowled overs which is, I think, unacceptable.

Not having seen the terms and conditions of purchasing a ticket for a long while, I don't know what they say about un-bowled overs. I do wonder, though, whether they include a commitment to bowl a set number of overs - say a percentage of the 90 overs? If there is such a commitment, would there be a case for legal action to recover a percentage of the cost of the ticket?

First ever Day/Night game started this Evening in Jamaica, Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat. A painful 1st session saw the Baggy Greens 1-50. Sam Kostas was out LBW to Justin Greaves for 17 off 53 balls...........
Already the hosts have bowled 5 No Balls & 2 Wides!

Lets hope the second session livens up.

So today we got to the dizzy heights of 80 overs being bowled, and still no warnings or penalties imposed or, it appears, any interest from the umpires in speeding things up.

In the County Championship they are to bowl 16 per hour and each over they fall short is a 1 point deduction.

The umpires make a lot of allowances though, such as for fall of wickets and more, so it’s not that uncommon for play to finish after 7pm with no deduction.

Your main point stands though!

In the Blast they get through 40 overs in around a maximum of 2 hours and 50 minutes of playing time despite having to retrieve all the balls whacked to the boundary and sometimes many wickets falling. The umpires are quite strict on the last over of an innings commencing after 75 minutes, though in the end there’s usually 5 minutes added on plus the time to bowl the last over.

Thanks; I appreciate that and, in fact, have benefitted from it in the past.

It is, though, a different situation, as I'm talking about a full day's play which is unaffected by the weather but is affected by the inability / unwillingness of the players to bowl the number of overs that they should bowl.

Worth noting that over the first 3 days of the current Lord's test we have lost more than an entire session of play - a total of 32 overs so far.
