I believe that it's also the highest partnership for any nation in an away test match.
I think that the statement "the hosts disintegrated after tea" does need to take into account that the pair at the crease at the end of play had put together an unbroken stand of 70 and one of those two players had a not out hundred in the first innings.Some snippets from the BBC report for today's play....

Yeah, I mean, until he beats Wally Hammonds 251 in Sydney or the 287 on debut by RE Foster ( also in Sydney)or Alastair Cook's unbeaten 244 at the MCG those 12,000 plus runs, 64 half centuries, 35 centuries and 6 double centuries are basically meaningless. Root has essentially wasted his talent.
