After slumping to one of our worst defeats ever against Yorkshire last week the team delivered one of our best victories ever against Nottingham. After a decidedly ordinary first three days Durham chased down 183 to win in 23 overs at more than 9 runs per over. A fantastic performance that included Stoneman scoring the fasts fifty in Durham's championship history. Really happy about it

Being a mathematician of some standing, may I query your figure of "more than 9 runs per over". A scoring rate of 8 runs per over from 23 overs would give a figure of 184 runs, which would suffice to reach the set target of 183 runs.

The county championship Division Two match at Old Trafford was a most hard fought game, between Lancashire and Essex, culminated in a most exciting climax. Essex declared their second innings on 203-3 to set Lancashire a target of 253 to win in a competitive run rate. Matters fluctuated with both sides assuming superiority at times, but Lancashire eventually prevailed to win by three wickets, but with only one ball to spare.

Two runs per over with none of the first four batsmen dismissed making a 50 is not exactly a good start to this Test Match for England.

It could have been worse. When Shane Bond used to play, Henry Blofeld kept calling him "James Bond", which led to Daniel Vettori becoming "Daniel Radcliffe" and someone else becoming "Julia" Roberts.

Jimmy Anderson cannot always be relied upon to take on his role of the usual demolition of the higher-placed opposition batsmen that seems to be his role in Test Match cricket in recent years, as he did in the first innings, noting who of the top four New Zealand batsmen were dismissed by, but his bowling effort of 5 for 47 from 24 overs, of which 11 were maidens, has at least helped England to have had a chance of obtaining a winning result in this first Test Match.

Ainsworth- just seen on sky sports the CB40 league and it shows Durham with 2.75 points, how come they have .75 points, not seen this before or is it a mistake.

We got deducted .25 points for breach of salary cap last season, in the LVCC we've been deducted 2.5 points for the same reason. So I'll also take this moment to apologise for making all the tables look messy

After dismissing England in their second innings quite cheaply to set a winning target of only 239, whoever would have thought the lunch interval would arrive with New Zealand on 29-6, with Stuart Broad making inroads into their top-order batsmen by taking 5 wickets in 6 overs.

Broad's return of 7 for 44 is one of his best Test Match bowling performances and New Zealand must regard a second innings total of 68 all out as a most worrying performance.

Certainly a bowlers' match! Most people seem to think there's something in the pitch, and the fact that the outfield has been relaid, affecting batting performance. Headingley should settle things there. It'll be interesting for Joe Root, with a chance to make his first Test 50 in front of his home crowd (fingers crossed).
