Let me be clear - Sturgeon

You could write a dictionary of Sturgeon's common sayings at her briefings.

'Let me be clear'
'Allow me to be blunt'
'This is concerning'
'We will keep that under review'
'We are taking a careful and cautious approach'
'Our elimination strategy'
'I think I mentioned this briefly'
'Allow me to start with my usual statistical update'

and her usual finish

'Allow me to close by reiterating the importance to the public for following the FACTS Campaign, you should wear a face-covering in enclosed spaces, avoid crowded places, clean your hands and surfaces regularly, two-metre distancing remains the rule, and self-isolate and book a test if you have symptoms. These remain essential to control the virus and allow us to protect the economy and return to normality that little bit sooner...'

'Sturgeon warns'.

It feels like half of the stuff she warns is usually scaremongering and never turns out true.

A very delusional idea. Fed up with the Control the Virus phrase, you can't control a virus, if we could we'd have it sorted by now.

Sturgeon warns isn’t that sort of a media word they belt out at the moment?

Also the other phrase constantly “Scotland”.

That's the other one that went over my head (lol) . It's like some sort of game isn't it, avoid plain talk, confuse your electorate.

I think moonshot is like catapulting :D:D:D:E:E

'Let me be clear' is a standard politician phrase, which means 'I am now going to waffle at length but not provide any clarity'.

For a word/phrase of this year that is a false description of the service: NHS Test & Trace (the NHS have almost nothing to do with it, it's Serco and Deloitte who are behind why it's such a mess)

For us in Scotland our trace app is called... Protect Scotland , it would have been better an app for the whole uk and Ireland approach but never mind..

new Sturgeon phrase today did anyone catch it?
Ms Sturgeon said: "I need to be absolutely straight with people across Scotland”
fast and urgent action — so what’s been happening since day 1?
package of new restrictions — unsure if she mentioned this or it’s media spin

Indeed

I think Boris meant something along the lines of "tripping the circuit breaker" would trigger enforced lockdown

So why not just say that? I guess it’s trying not to cause hysteria but then again the media know what they are doing... even with jargon..

‘Nobody wants a second lockdown’ is getting a thrashing at the moment, mostly from people who I think very much want to see one.

Mask up/masking up (sure I heard it in the media somewhere)

Sturgeon phrases - practice what we are preaching

As the NHS is a nebulous concept rather than one thing, I fail to see how they could "run" it.

Virii, plural of virus

I had heard of furlough, it denoted home leave, several months at least, for missionaries who had been working in Africa, South America, etc

You get it in the US, particularly in "work at will" states (where, in a legal sense, everybody is on a zero hours contract) - companies just lay off staff for a bit because they don't have any work for them.

Furlough was also used to describe any workers who could not work because of a US Government shutdown (except they were not paid in that time, unlike for anyone on our furlough scheme), so I'd heard of the term before Covid because of Trump's antics to get border wall funding.
