@Spamcan81 has a point here - it appears that there was indeed a Holytown station on the Caledonian Main Line, about 200 yards south of the later station of Mossend. The first Holytown station closed in 1882 when Mossend opened. The current Holytown station is on the W,M&CR.

Last year, I put the very same point on to RAILSCOT for an adjudication and they said at the time that the 1st Holytown station was not where it is stated above.

About Holytown 1st station:

RAILSCOT's entry for Mossend says:

Holytown [1st] station closed when this station, just to the north, opened with two platforms on the line south and east and a further two platforms on the west to north curve of the Mossend junctions.

The picture is very clear on the OS 1:2500 maps for 1860 and 1896 - I can PM clips if that would be helpful.

I think Auchencastle came between Beattock Summit Halt and Beattock.
Nevertheless we move on to, I think, Whampray.

Edit : I have just seen reference to Auchencastle as a private station so perhaps an alternative name for the halt at Beattock Summit.

After past deliberations on Holytown (1st station), it was then included in the list of examples that are shown in Rule 4. After that occurred, it has never been shown as a posting submission on quite a number of journeys along that line on past journeys on this quiz.

RAILSCOT do actually have an information page on Holytown (1st station) (1844-1882) in which it clearly states that this station was opened on the Wishaw and Coltness Railway.
