If they're being paid to move it its revenue earning. Just because the 'cargo has its own wheels doesnt change that.

Even in BR days im fairly sure you'd have sectors charging each other for services provided across boundaries.

In BR days it would probably have all gone by road because it was cheaper.

The BLS have just regurgitated ROG’s press releases. They also quoted a fleet of 30 locos - the order was for 10 with 20 options, which have not been made firm (and are unlikely to ever be).

I must admit that when I first saw they were going to Ely on here, I did think it could be for them to go into storage ;)

Still no onward STP ("Short Term Plan") from Ely on the day 5Q46 arrives from Derby or on the day after.

my question would be if it is revenue-earning, why a 0 headcode, which I thought was only for light engines going to work (e.g) 5Q57?

They are working light engine to collect the stock to move as the revenue earning move.

The Q headcode is because the class 93’s have a NRSC document that allows revenue earning work rather than just testing/light engine movements. I believe they are awaiting other documentation to be added to the sections appendix but I am sure someone on here will be able to confirm/deny/add to the reasoning.

Off-topic, but worth mentioning: when I was Commuted Charges Manager at Railfreight Distribution I was constantly challenging "free-on-rail" movements that used locally-arranged RfD resources, but for which the organiser had hoped I wouldn't notice and not send an invoice. My going-rate was £2,000 for a short haul and, once they realised they couldn't get away with it, heavy-hauliers like Allelys usually got the business.

Aren't the 175 drags 45mph maximum and relatively light loads? That'll be a great test of the class 93's 4600kW overhead power and 110mph top speed :lol:

That'll be two locomotives with a combined cost of something like £10 million [correction: ~£4 million per loco so ~£8 million for two. I'm struggling to see how ROG expects to make ends meet unless they have something in the Pipeline.

Yes, it was clearly too high but I needed to ensure that all costs were covered. People who knew eachother socially at places like Crewe made unofficial local arrangements to move rolling-stock between sites. They probably got away without paying more often than not!
