810008 just passed Market Harborough pan up!
Sounds like good engineering to meAlmost if Hitachi has tried to exactly replicate the nominal 222 performance at the lowest possible manufacturing cost (for them)
That depends if minimal resilience (unlike the rest of the 80x) on higher performance spec works in practice...Sounds like good engineering to me
Don't Hitachi build what is specified by the company ordering the train?Sounds like good engineering to me
Not in the case of availability requirements!Don't Hitachi build what is specified by the company ordering the train?
If you read what I was referring to , the post quoted performance. Which I take to mean as speed, power etc!Not in the case of availability requirements!
Just ask LNER or GWT…. (Or their passengers on short-formed trains!)
Where has this misconception come from that’s regularly stated the 801s have a ‘small rescue engine’ - it’s exactly the same as an 800, just there’s only 1 of them!IIRC the LNER can run an electric only set (801) over an unelectrified diversion by coupling it to an 802 in diesel mode (possibly with the assistance of the 801's small rescue engine). Clearly that's not quite the same thing but it does show that there is some flexibility in the designs
All transformers are used all of the time - on a 5 car both transformers (cars 1 and 5) and on a 9 car all three transformers (cars 1, 4 and 9)Thank you, is that the case for 9 car units as well or do 9 car units use both transformers?
And that one engine can get a 9 car set up to about 45mph on the level.Where has this misconception come from that’s regularly stated the 801s have a ‘small rescue engine’ - it’s exactly the same as an 800, just there’s only 1 of them!
Out interest, how fast will the 9-car Class 800 go on all five diesel engines? And that one engine can get a 9 car set up to about 45mph on the level.
I believe they hit about 117-120 on the level.Out interest, how fast will the 9-car Class 800 go on all five diesel engines?

Exactly - I wouldn't call a 21-litre V12 "small" in an underfloor multiple unit application!Where has this misconception come from that’s regularly stated the 801s have a ‘small rescue engine’ - it’s exactly the same as an 800, just there’s only 1 of them!
In what way meddled? Negative side effects of having the tighter emission controls, or...?I am pretty sure they meddled with the 805 engines, which didn't go terribly well - IIRC many units were running with some engines disabled due to faults well after introduction.
They were the first Stage V MTU 1600 engine on the 80x (all the older ones being Stage IIIB emissions) and had completely new exhaust and engine software changes. Not meddling effectively new engine from regulatory and certification point of view.I am pretty sure they meddled with the 805 engines, which didn't go terribly well - IIRC many units were running with some engines disabled due to faults well after introduction.
This would suggest it would be 810001, 003 or 004.5Q61 Sheffield- St Pancras 810008? started from Leicester but got no further than Knighton Jn. Looks like its on its way back to Old Dalby.
Or indeed the rumoured first mainline test of the 810s working in multiple (possibly 03 and 04)?This would suggest it would be 810001, 003 or 004.
810008/009 are based at Etches Park, running on 3Axx codes.
Would they not do 10 car testing at Old Dalby first? Clear of a mainline?Or indeed the rumoured first mainline test of the 810s working in multiple (possibly 03 and 04)?
This has been in full EMR livery since September 2024.Unsure if this has been mentioned yet, but 810008 is fully vinyled up and looking very smart at Etches Park!
Can easily be seen from trains between Derby and Spondon.
I didn't realise there are three transformers on a 9 car? So there a transformer in one of the Trailer Standards as well? Is that the one nearest first class or on the standard class end?Where has this misconception come from that’s regularly stated the 801s have a ‘small rescue engine’ - it’s exactly the same as an 800, just there’s only 1 of them!

All transformers are used all of the time - on a 5 car both transformers (cars 1 and 5) and on a 9 car all three transformers (cars 1, 4 and 9)
The 25kV bus-bar runs along the roof linking the active pantograph to all transformers
How long does it take to achieve that? And that one engine can get a 9 car set up to about 45mph on the level.
Car 4 has the transformer. Of the 4 trailer cars, 1, 4 and 9 have transformers and 1, 6 and 9 have batteries.I didn't realise there are three transformers on a 9 car? So there a transformer in one of the Trailer Standards as well? Is that the one nearest first class or on the standard class end?

I think I am right in saying cars 1 and 9 have compressors? And cars 2, 3, 5, 7 and 8 have auxiliary converters (same ones that have the traction inverters).Car 4 has the transformer. Of the 4 trailer cars, 1, 4 and 9 have transformers and 1, 6 and 9 have batteries.
In full livery? Because I'm sure they keep adding more bits every time I go past, like the '1' for first near the doors for example? This has been in full EMR livery since September 2024.
It is the unit that EMR used for internal pictures for publicity purposes.
Attached picture below taken November 2024, shows '1' at each end of carriage. In full livery? Because I'm sure they keep adding more bits every time I go past, like the '1' for first near the doors for example?
8 nearest the running line with full vinylsDoes anyone know which of 810008 or 810009 is the one stabled nearest Derby station on the bend on leaving toward Spondon?
Thank you..appreciate8 nearest the running line with full vinyls
