Is it a class-specific exercise, or did they use a 701 because it was available?
Don't have that information sorry, maybe someone else here will knowIs it a class-specific exercise, or did they use a 701 because it was available?
Well they had plenty to chose fromIt was just because a 701 was available.

Casualties exercise, 701037
I'm not sure if one went in to the sidings a few months ago or just tested various shunt moves.I was one of the 'Casualties' on board (in fact, I believe that may be my photo). Can anyone confirm whether this is the first time a 701 has made it into the sidings at Guildford?
It was 701046, worked by 69008. I was at Eastleigh, where it went into the East Yard.5Q84 1315 Marchwood to Eastleigh appears to have run today (11/07), ran to Eastleigh instead of Wimbledon Park - third time lucky ?? Presume it was a 701 moved ?
Drag cancelled5Q84 1315 Marchwood to Wimbledon Park ran yesterday 09.07.24 - anyone know which unit was moved please ?
I note that another 5Q84 is booked to run tomorrow 11.07.24.
Did it actually come in from Marchwood? I abandoned my waiting, after seeing RTT's data showing the inbound L/E cancelledIt was 701046, worked by 69008. I was at Eastleigh, where it went into the East Yard.
I wonder whether the "casualties" being treated for shock, are outnumbered by genuine travellers in shock at actually seeing one...At least they are seeing some use:

Two word answer - Staff training. What is the main reason stopping this fleet getting into service? I haven't been following this story closely.
What a sobering, frustrating, epic photo. Great shotSuch a depressing view, badly needed trains are collecting dust in some remote sidings...

Aluminium bodies are much lighter than steel bodies, but the motor and cooling system is quieter, see post #1,952 onwards.I've noticed how much quieter the 701s are when passing compared to other trains. They almost sound as if they're floating. I can only guess this is because of how light they are
Why has there been a lack of training?Lack of training, rather than wrong training
Yes - although something I've always wondered and never managed to get a proper answer for is why the Aventras after the 345 have higher pitch inverters, creating that screeching noise. If that hadn't of happened, they'd be even quieter.but the motor and cooling system is quieter, see post #1,952 onwards.
Has to be with how the traction boxes are arranged on 345s vs other Aventras. In saying that the 730s are quite close.Yes - although something I've always wondered and never managed to get a proper answer for is why the Aventras after the 345 have higher pitch inverters, creating that screeching noise.
