Now this is a tricky one from inside the cab...Obviously the TMS gives you the hint if you are looking at it all the time plus you can see the nose which obviously is different to the 0's.The cab is almost identical,almost.I tell other drivers who moan about it...look out for the nose.Same thing on 444/450.The nose is longer on a 444.Although the driving controls are identical there are hints on the second man side of the cab plus the connecting doors are different.
The same speedo as what's on the 0's.

Am I right in thinking this speedo type is a group standard now? Even the slammers had them fitted for their final few years of service.

No,only on the 458/459.
455's and 158/159 have different as do desiros.Oh and 442's.

Totally agree on that one, my earlier sightings were blocked by 455 + 444 & 350 stock arriving into Waterloo so length of set wasn't immediatly obvious

Not quite, it's a fudge to do with the crew diagramming software used by SWT only having 3 characters for the unit type, so they cannot include /0 or /5 to differentiate them.
Was explained (quite a bit) earlier in the thread.

Reported there was a fire underneath just after departing, which fire crews had to cut through the floor to access. Passengers self-evacuated onto the tracks.

It was taken back to Wimbledon last night at 5mph from Windsor, where it spent the day yesterday. Air bags melted and burst too. Don't think we will see it back for a while.

Nah I was running into Twickenham (from Reading) and all hell broke loose.Just about got into the platform loads of smoke coming from the back...apparently a load of tin foil had got wrapped around the shoe gear at the back causing a dead short...Had to remove the shoe fuse.I've been lucky though,seen numerous pigs in trouble and was also on one (traveling pass) being assisted by a 73 outside Basingstoke...when just as we ran into the platform a load of smoke came out of the unit.The motors had seized up.

458520 in service today and saw 530 leaving clapham tonight as 5z51 down to the park as well. Didn't sound to well.

Didn't I see 520+530 @ Weybridge last week while I was waiting in the bay.
1552 and 1622 London Waterloo-Weybridge were both formed of single 458/5s today. Not seen the 1552 as a 458 before. Provided the 1737 Hounslow Loop train is formed of 2x458/5 as booked that means 8 units made it in to service today. Not without incident though. 533 and 502 wouldn't couple for the 1615 out of Waterloo so in the end 533 worked solo.

1615 has been 5 vice 10 and run fast to Twickenham more times than I care to remember in the past few weeks.
They moved that one into 19 from 17 to give it a better chance; I give it a few weeks before it's moved to 15 or similar where the curve shouldn't be too bad at the 5-6 car mark.

I was travelling on EC this week and noticed at Doncaster, two or three ex Gatwick Express Coaches presumably awaiting refurb, I think at least one was a driving car or baggage car, I also saw one refurbish coach painted in SWT Blue livery.
