Any reason why there is a 10 car 458/5 rubbing round the Hounslow loop today when everything else is a 4 car 455? A little surprising!

Hard to believe but that's now 18 of the 36 units at some stage of the conversion process!

Thank you for this update. Your remark about the progress of 18 units out of 36 sounds impressive. In practice, it seems that just 8 are in service so far. I think it could take until next summer to complete the conversion of all 36 units.

504 was in Wim Yd @ 2230...At least I think it was 504...
503 has also disappeared and no crew training train was in the shed @ clapped out yard.

Saw 520 with possibly 532 @ Weybridge bay earlier and think I had seen a very new 520 in the same 10 car outside Waterloo about 1445.Unusual to see the 458/5s out during the weekend I thought.

I agree, yesterday was the first time I had seen a 10 car set at the weekend. I saw one heading towards Waterloo at Putney at about 17:40 as I was waiting for the 17:42 to Windsor.

As for using 10 car trains on the Hounslow loop; when I take the slow train from Feltham in the mornings in order to get a seat, the trains do get very round the loop.

No, there wasn't any rugby this weekend so unusual to see 458/5s out. There was a pair out today on Windsor trains too.

Appears 458 training at clj is cancelled for the next couple of weeks. Probably due to increased diagrams with unit oos due to the fire damage.

0723 Windsor is down as short formed again. What causes this to be broken at least once a week? A reoccurring problem or a multitude of errors?

Last night the 1737 Waterloo to Waterloo sat down at Barnes (outward journey) and had to be taken out of service, with the next working out of Waterloo at 1915 also cancelled.

Expecting a 450 because the diagram says so a certain 458533 turned up and I worked it round the slowhounds loop.Another driver was gutted though as he had to split a 455 8 car set for 4 to take to Weybridge.Apparently if it had been a 459 he'd have got an early day as the school was going to take him off.Loads of ExGat units out.

As of this week there seem to be 10 diagrammed for service. However, there still appear to be only 4 Reading diagrams which have been replaced by 450s (in addition to the two that were always there), the same position as for the past few months. By my calculations this leaves 18 458/0s required for service out of the 18 still at Wimbledon!

Little wonder then that there are daily short-forms on Reading services. I wonder why more 450s have not gone over. What are the units working on that have been replaced by 458/5 diagrams?

Possibilities that would not necessarily be widely noticed would be strengthening various 8.450 to 12.450 on the Portsmouth and Southampton routes.

However they must also have the 5 units available that used to run the Guildford - Ascot shuttles, now firmly in the hands of 456s.

Oddly enough the 0500 off Portsmouth Harbour to Basingstoke which forms the 0642 Basingstoke to Waterloo is currently showing as a 6.159 - I'm fairly sure someone said that had changed to 8.450 last year some time.

Guildford-Ascot went 100% 456 in May 2014 though, so the 450s from there have been allocated to other duties for a long time now. Remember there is still a pair of 450s out vice 455s on Suburban routes to cover for a shortfall of 455s caused by the delays to the 456 refurbishment.

Does that Suburban 450+450 still run? Since December I've been at Waterloo a few times when the 1924 Dorking should be in the platform but haven't seen 450s. However, at another time I did see a set at Vauxhall P8 displaying "Chess'tn S".

Badly phrased, what I probably should have said is that it also provided a couple of 458s for elsewhere.

In which case I stand corrected :) sounds like the same diagram as well.

If that's the diagram that includes the 23.09 Waterloo - Dorking and ecs back to Wimbledon, it was certainly a pair of 450s last night. In the past month or so I've only seen it running as 455s once and that was on a heavily disrupted day.

Yes the 450 pair still out. I plan to be on it tomorrow between Surbiton and Clapham Junction at 17.11. The service usually departs late from Surbiton.

I sometimes use it when it forms the 8.36 from Guildford. The 450 pair being used in this way is one of the sliver linings of the delays.
