Surely if there is a locomotive hauling powercars its not light loco though? That’s not what I said. I said the loco hauling 0E43 will be coming from Rectory Jn.

It will be for 43188/189. These are the only two Angel owned vehicles at Laira, hence why it shows as light engines.Realtime Trains | 0E43 0900 Laira T.& R.S.M.D. to Ely Mlf Papworth Sidings | 20/01/2026

Move from Laira to Ely on Tuesday, interesting how it's a light loco move, could just be 2 power cars going
Yes it is, because all three are locos.Surely if there is a locomotive hauling powercars its not light loco though?
Light loco doesn't only mean one loco - can be multiple locos on a 0 headcodeSurely if there is a locomotive hauling powercars its not light loco though?
Yes, don't forget that HST Power Cars ARE locomtives (Class 43 indeed !) and up to six locomotives coupled can run as a Class 0 (ie: Light locomotive(s)) - in fact I think the official description might be one locomotive hauling up to six (so seven in total) anything more than this is treated as Exceptional and will be shown as Class 7 (prbably 7X..)Yes it is, because all three are locos.
Oh ok thank you for the correction.Light loco doesn't only mean one loco - can be multiple locos on a 0 headcode
43188 + 43189 in tow, the last of the Angel Trains HST stock at Laira0E43 37407 plus two HST power cars just passed through EX St. Tom. It does'nt look Voyager friendly at Dawlish this morning!
They’ll be from the five FRH owned power cars still at Laira, but as to quantity and numbers, I don’t know.0Z43 Laira - Totnes followed by 5Z43 Totnes - Carnforth in the system for tomorrow. Looks like new WCR power cars picking up Mk. 1s from the South Devon Railway en route.
Anybody know which power cars it's likely to be?
Indeed, leaving the other 3 for Romic.43097, 43098 and 43198 bound for Carnforth apparently - https://www.flickr.com/photos/145100037@N05/55050766633/
As above, 43097, 43098 and 43198. They were due to collect the Mk1s which have been on hire to the SDR for the winter season but a points failure meant they couldn’t get into Totnes Riverside.Realtime Trains | 0Z43 1134 Totnes to Carnforth Steamtown | 21/01/2026

Not sure which locos are moving, but judging by the data above and the headcode, looks to be a few HSTs on the move to Carnforth.

Was that would n the NR or SDR points?43097, 43098 & 43198 are the power cars quoted, there's been a points problem at Totnes so they've not stopped to pick up the ECS
Didn't a class 802 derail there in the last few days? Was that would n the NR or SDR points?
No,that was Paignton.Didn't a class 802 derail there in the last few days?
The East Coast power cars have indeed fared well, but would it be accurate to say that a majority of the ex-LNER IM (infrastructure monitoring) 43s are being stood down in favour of ex-CrossCountry 43s?... or remaining in the UK for Colas & Network Rail. Compared to the Western region fleet, the East Coast machines have faired well.
No, all 10 remain on lease to Colas. From the HST preservation discussion...

What you also need to remember is both the XC and East Coast power cars were re-engineered to the same standards during their time at Brush. Both have the upgraded electronics, WSP and BRUSH radiators so there wouldn’t be much in it if Colas did want to swap power cars. From the HST preservation discussion...

Thank you for the additional detail. What you also need to remember is both the XC and East Coast power cars were re-engineered to the same standards during their time at Brush. All modifications the Western Power Cars didn’t receive, and why ScotRail has somewhat been paying the price for (eg upgraded electronics and WSP).
Saw some videos of the units being moved, it was indeed those 3.43097, 43098 & 43198 are the power cars quoted, there's been a points problem at Totnes so they've not stopped to pick up the ECS
The nameplates belong to GWR.I was expecting the GWR branding to be removed. What I didn't expect was the nameplates to also be gone as well, which is a shame.
I expect they will be sold through GWRA auctions.I was expecting the GWR branding to be removed. What I didn't expect was the nameplates to also be gone as well, which is a shame.
That would explain a lot. It's a shame 198 is losing her plates; the fact that she is not only the last powercar, but also named for 2 drivers who lost their lives while signed on for duty was what made her my favourite loco. I didn't know plates were the TOC's property! The nameplates belong to GWR.
Any bets on what the prices will be?I expect they will be sold through GWRA auctions.
As do the cast GWR letters which I’m sure will probably find their way to auction at some point. The nameplates belong to GWR.
