If it was a longer journey I would stand an spend the journey sending London Midland e mails asking them to stop putting 350/2's on Inter City trains. Even Merseyrail don't have 3+2.
Unfortunately LM don't listen to complaints about 350/2.
BHM-LIV requires eight units and EUS-CRE about the same number. LM has 40 2+2 units but the Liverpool route (88 miles) still sees 3-4 350/2 units each day.

That's because the 350/2 are only 100mph where as the rest are 110mph so are required for timetabled service on the WCML services so the 350/2 end up on the remaining routes.

There is a big difference between a /1 and a /2 on the long distance. I've done a /1 Euston to Crewe and /2 back. /2 was definitely not a great trip, especially with air con playing up.

Perhaps a hope in the next franchise period is that if the 350/4s can be procured upon release from TPE, they can be allocated to operate the Liverpool diagrams. Fortunately my trips on the Liverpool line have been 350/1s; I wouldn't really consider a 350/2 suitable or pleasant experience if you were riding a significant chunk of the route.

Don't suppose we've got any drivers of either 387 fleets? I'm after some high quality in cab images of dials and general pictures to model from.

The pictures will be used to model a 387 cab.

Thanks,
Ross

Doesn't make it alright. Liverpool lost its long distance services to the south and south west for this. Is it just alright that you can spend a big chunk on a commuter EMU? It is bad enough that you hop off one on to a Voyager for the rest of your journey.

PMed a 387 cab video that might help

Thanks for your help regarding this. It's interesting that as you set the reverser to forward, a voice plays which says "TPWS and AWS operational"
I don't think the 377s have that?
Thanks,
Ross

Apologies if mentioned but I just saw an all red one on a Bedford service pass through Norwood junctio. 8 carriages and the rear was 203. Looked pretty but why all red.

On phone so don't want to trawl through pages

'All red' is the new GatEx livery.

The use to Bedford is a short term thing while some of the 387/1s are being modified.

I think that is related to the TPWS mk4(?) fitted to these trains. It also talks in the event of TPWS activation ISTR, and caused a few issues when the 350/3s were being introduced

Would I be too cheeky to ask someone to record just the voice with no other sounds in the background in high quality?
(Probably)
Thanks,

Might be worth finding out who recorded the voice and asking for a copy of the relevant sound file.

Alternatively it shouldn't be difficult to make your own recording ;)

They're exactly the same as /1s with the exception of the colours on the interior and exterior.

Technically there are differences in the software that is about to start being rolled out to the 387/1. Cue lots of rumours when it starts in a few weeks time as it's being done off GTR by Bombardier.

It appears First class offers the additional luxury of a head rest cover on the same ironing board seats ?

came through the baggage reclaim earlier at gatwick and sat on a seat waiting for my luggage... saw and advert on the wall for the gatwick express and thought to my self that these cushioned leather seats were more comfortable than the 387 first class seats.!!!!.. By a country mile.
