Based on the pictures of First Class a couple of pages ago I really can't imagine the first class passengers being particularly happy with that.. Not even a door to separate the area and exactly the same seats?! It's just going to constantly end up with people sitting in there because they don't even realise it's first class and yet more threads appearing on here with people getting penalty fares for it.. Very bad move.

Well there is the odd thing, it seems that they have been designed for that entire section I have photted, up to the internal doors, to be First Class (most seats have velcro on them ready to receive antimacassars) but they have instead just got First in the small section behind the driver, about a good 1/4 of which is a sodding luggage rack!

is the door further down the carriage as maybe the 1st class section will be extended when they leave Thameslink?
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Also what is going on with the seat pattern? looks very random

The seat patterns *appear* to be different to designate Standard and First seating - but they've knackered that by having the section mentioned above as Standard. A couple of seats are also priority and have a different pattern, plus a big P embroided onto the headrest

Possibly, but having seen how bad first class is now marked on a range of GTR trains I do actually feel a bit sorry for some people who will be caught unawares.

Not on GTR but we were on a 377 earlier in the day of the type that has no dividing doors. Pretty sure some of the others sat there had maybe not noticed the tiny "1"'s on the windows given there is nothing much to differentiate the two areas!

That's because the current Electrostars on Thameslink First Class have 10 seats and this means the capacity of First Class stays the same. As for complaining about the luggage rack, it's actually better situation as they can keep large luggage closer.

Future operators may deal with the issue differently.

but when you look at the pictures from previous page there is clearly a mismatch in pattern on one of the table seats that appears to have nothing to do with priority or 1st class

A local equine merchants near me sells some potion for saddle sores. You might need some after five hours on one

Completely right there - every batch of new stock makes the First Class provision progressively worse. If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd think that Govia were trying to make things so bad that they could justify withdrawing all First completely. As I'm not, it must just be incompetence.

Those poor deacons, being on track all day. Doing God's work.

Oh, new tablet is a bit aggressive in changing what I type.

Should in theory be same as mon/tues this week but will try to update you. New year I've not got a clue yet what they will do.

Bless them, now a pair want to have a good long look at Haywards Heath station...

I was waiting for them at Brighton, thought they wouldn't make it with that fault. Nevermind. Now on 109/111 playing up.

I've got no idea which pair I'm on, but we're at East Croydon on a Brighton service.

Why doesn't the DFT specify better first class?

Why don't govia improve first class considering its own management use first class.?

From the reports of the things expiring in various parts of the network, perhaps getting some deacons in to pray for them, that their engines function and that their seats doeth soften, verily, might be the best bet......

The engine on the one I'm sat on (comfortably, for the last 40 mins) can't be working. Either that or it's very quiet. But we do seem to be going along alright.

At least their failure rate is somewhat better than LOROLs 172s when they were introduced. Their failures were measured in casualties per mile.

:D

Almost we must remember fleet introduction is like an bath tub. High failure can be expected initially but it must be said the 387s aren't doing too bad especially compared with the 377/6 fleet.

Have they shed any door buttons yet? Or have they finally fixed that with the 387s?
I know it's something people go on about a lot, but seeing a missing button on a 377/6 I travelled on yesterday it reminded me how weak they must be to be disappearing on a train that's barely been in service for a year.

I've gone on about it a lot, as I've reported it to AGA many times and every time they respond as if it's the first time anyone has told them. They also seem unconcerned about how much harder it is for people, especially those with poor eyesight, to use them.

I really do hope these buttons won't be a problem elsewhere (and I know 172s have similar issues).

387109 and 111 failed yet again this morning at Redhill. So much for the concept of testing and trialling before entering service! Very poor performance for the fleet so far.

Do Bombardier provide their own staff to travel on the trains and work at GTR's depot to understand what faults are occurring on new trains and help keep them in service? I assume that Bombardier get fined by GTR if their new trains perform badly when introduced into service, and hence would have an incentive to do whatever they can to keep the trains in service.

Yes Bomardier usually have their guys sat with a laptop in the front compartment behind the driver. Today's failure (at Gatwick, not Redhill) needed a spanner and a saw rather than a laptop though.

Failure rate is definitely better than other recent Bombardier fleet introductions.

Only 3 (out of 8) of the bogies are powered and if you're not sitting directly above it you're unlikely to hear it.

The first one I drove 106 had an external button (outer ring) missing.

Not sure I can agree with that. I don't remember incidents of S stock breaking down on the met circle and H&C when they were introduced about a year back.

And despite having to comply with LULs very strict fire regulations, the seats have damn sight more padding where you plonk your backside and are thus far more comfortable than 378s.

I saw a few S stocks going around out of service with loads of people wearing orange hi-vis throughout. And didn't a whole load end up being sent back to Derby?
