From all the photos I've seen the 377/7s don't have the yellow stripe on the exterior. The /6s already have the internal doors, stickers and antimacassars so I can't see them being too much different.

Are any of the 377's that are going to FCC going to be regularly scheduled to go around the wimbledon loop or to sevenoaks?

There was the possibility of using the 377s around the Loop in booked service when the 6x 377/2 come in May but they can't be used in 8 car formation (and why Southern stopped using them in 8 cars) so they are staying 319s for now.

Sevenoaks route wont be getting 377s. They will go straight from 319s to 700.

what about the 387s?

Same reasoning as the 377 as you have to retrain drivers and then retrain them a few years later again. Note the 387s aren't coming have first class according to Southern, something that's needed on some Thameslink Sevenoaks/Kent services.

They are currently on mileage accumulation between wembley and rugby and do run through Northampton. I can provide times, however, more often than not they are running early!

Am coming up to London with a few hours to spare tomorrow, are there set diagrams that they are working? with times etc. that you could share Alistair?

Many Thanks

377704 and 377705 were out on DC today, between Stewarts Lane and Dover on the usual afternoon diagrams 3Z37 and 3Z38. Not sure where they joined, 377704 was shunting around and left Stewarts Lane on its own at one point this lunch time before the run to Dover.

Unusual sight to see, they've done very little running on DC.

Everything to do with the traction electronics involved in DC operation is also involved in AC operation. Surely as long as the shoe gear and its associated wiring is confirmed OK AC testing is as good as DC testing?

What can really go wrong with a shoe beam and shoe gear?

They still have a % of proving on DC. As for what can go wrong, lots. Everything needs to be proven in working order before a single passenger gets on.

Not on the Croydon MKC line, just got a response from Southern saying they are postponing the extension.

The peak train that goes past KPA at 17.50 is so full at present that they are telling people not to attempt to board and Kensington and Shepherds Bush.

Any idea what "shortly" is, weeks or months? Obviously testing takes time, especially when faults are not easy fixes.

Southern won't reveal if they are close to being ready to be added to the service or way off.

I can only presume then that this information is not in the public domain and Class 377/5 (if he knows) is not privvy to imparting this information here.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see as and where they turn up

Or possibly because nobody knows... It may be that they expect it to be ready within a month but cannot nail it down to a date as it could easily be later than said date, with all the negative PR that goes with that

The info is not public and I can't say much more than I already have.

Would it not be useful to add them to the general pool on some restrictive duties in order to run them in after testing? It doesn't seem productive to have brand new trains sitting idle.

Quite so, LM have that with their brand new 350/3s sitting around doing nothing. Yet they could quite happily be used for capacity-busting on busy Birmingham to London services, anyone using 350-operated services out of/into Birmingham in the evening peak will no doubt be able to testify this would be useful!

The units are still owned by the builder!
The leasing company won't accept ownership of the units until they have successfully completed the milage accumulation runs so how are you going to do that?

Well I'm just a layman so I have no idea...

Hope I'm allowed to post this here...

Read in a popular railway mag that the 377/7's are going to start M-F passenger workings from next week.

Is there truth/merit in this? Can this be made public now?

No its not. They are referring to the original plan that have been abandoned. What will still happen is 377/6 on Victoria-Brighton runs on just Saturday I think. Two 10 car pairs.

As it stands the 377/7 are property of Bombardier and need to be accepted by Southern first. That said the first 377/7 working maybe on Metro duties.

Will those 10 car brighton services be the non-stoppers (VIC/CLJ/ECR/BTN) or will they be operating on a different service?
