I imagine it will be very similar to when they were running on the Brightons when they were first introduced, although that was only one set. It was on the Brighton Express trains though. Most the Brighton diagrams are 8-car 377s on Saturdays at the moment, apart from one 9-car set, so the extra capacity for the Summer will be appreciated I imagine.

It was always a pair not a single set. I know as I did them regularly, but they were mainly on the expresses tho did wok stoppers as well as they were added ad hoc.

The current Brighton diagrams are a mix of 8 car 377s and 10 car 442.

Thanks for clarification Class 377/5.

I would imagine then that the two 10-car 377/6 SO will be on Brighton Express services then....

I'm not sure if they are SO if honest as I never bothered to look at Sunday workings.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant a single diagram which was a pair rather than a single set. There's still one 9-car diagram on Saturdays, 3 /3s which is strengthened with another 3-car for, I think, one trip in each direction. 10:06 Victoria-Brighton rings a bell. Prior to December there were 3 9-car sets on the Brightons on Saturdays.

Ah I get you know. The new timetable should see a mix of 8, 9, 10 & 12 (formed from 377/3 only) 377 Brighton - Victoria service with one early 'stopper' being a 10 car.

Am I right in assuming that the 10 car Brightons are generally pairs of 442s ?. Thats rather than a 377/3+377/3+377/1 or 377/3+377/3+377/4 combination but possibly 377/6+377/6 or 377/7+377/7. In which case its worth remembering that a 10 car pair of class 442s is roughly the same length (and capacity ?) as a twelve car Electrostar combination because the class 442 coaches are longer.

While I was typing the above the following occured to me. I assume that 377/6 and 377/7 should work together ?. Or is there something to make that difficult ?.

All the workings (unless I missed something) are 377, no 442s. 10 cars are two five car 377s, 12s are only 4x 377/3s.

377/6 & /7 will work together as they are effectively the same units bar the pans.

I don't think there's been many, or even any 442s on Saturdays on the Brighton's since December. Best time to get 442s now is weekday evenings.

Why are the 377/7 deliveries so far behind? I know Derby stopped for a while to concentrate on finishing off the 6s....but that was months ago. There was a picture of 707 for the "1000th coach built for Southern" press release...but why has it not come south yet? I thought they were supposed to be in use by this weekend. What is the hold up?

Where have the 442 diagrams gone?

Pretty much since the 442s were first introduced on Brighton runs they've had slightly less workings each timetable change.

Have any come down?

I certainly haven't seen any around Selhurst yet.

Regarding the introduction of 377/7s onto MKC-South Croydon and the fact the timetable hasn't really changed, have they figured out a solution yet to the clash that happens between Croydon and Euston services at MKC platform 2 around 18:00? To my knowledge you can't get 5/8 car units into platform 2A and the LM train is 12-car.

If anyone is able to answer this that'd be very much appreciated!

I have regularly seen 12 coach trains formed of 4x377/3, I have also seen 10 and 11 coach ones made up of 377/3s and /1s or /4s.

Bearing in mind the limited time I see them (just around Clapham jn) I am either very lucky or it is a common occurrence!

Is there any word on progress with the 377/7s? Are they any closer to entry into service or is further testing required?

377/7 entry into service is imminent. They are almost at the end of the acceptance process, few of them should enter service within the next 2 weeks.

Good to see progress being made, the cascade process can finally begin!

Aye it's about time! Northern need some 319s to get training done, and the sooner that starts the better! Rather looking forward to getting a 319 from Manchester to Liverpool, or indeed from Liverpool to Wigan!

More stuff to score in London soon then, I doubt at this time even a month of training it every day in London would get me even close to everything done!

Does anyone know the numbers of the two new 377s that were standing in Willesden yard on Thursday?

Depending on what time. If it was morning and early afternoon, then they should be 703/4. If it was late afternoon/evening, then they would be 702/5.

10 coach 377/3 + 377/3 + 377/1, 2 or 4 are common in peak times now for metro services, the 12 car 377/3s are normally just for peak time East Grinstead services and Brighton Expresses at the weekends.

I was only refering to booked working. Certainly is a number of ways a train can be formed (or even just shorted formed by a carriage).

Some peak mainline services (my morning East Grinstead-Victoria one in particular) are also 10-car 377's, normally two /3's and a /4.

yeah you are right. There used to be a booked 11 car too, not sure if it runs in the new timetable though.
