Its 001 and 006 which ran from Cricklewood to Cauldwell as 5Z19 this afternoon.

Damn, wanted to go and catch that one but I'm not prepared to travel all the way from South London to Bedford.

Hopefully I'll be able to catch 319220 or 217 when that goes instead...

I was reading that they have the end (emergency evacuation) doors as a result of limited clearances in the Smithfield tunnel. Tried googling the Smithfield tunnel but it comes up with the Snow Hill Tunnel, are the two the same? If they are the same when was the tunnel rebuilt into a larger twin track tunnel?

No they are different. Smithfield tunnels are on the now closed* route between Farringdon and Barbican (Moorgate)

see the London reconnection article:

https://www.londonreconnections.com/2012/in-pictures-a-walk-on-the-widened-lines/

*closed as part of Thameslink Programme KO0 to enable lengthening of Farringdon from 8 to 12 car

I don't think they're the same. From memory, I think the Smithfield tunnel was closed back when the through London route was re-opened via Snow Hill a decade or two ago.

319431 has had a fire at St Helens after entering service at Northern. Looks like it'll be returning to storage while the damaged TSO is repaired.

I think that date possibly refers to the physical closure of the south to east curve (i.e. Ludgate to Moorgate) under the corner of Smithfield Market. The tracks had been lifted much earlier, it was out of use for passengers from around 1916 IIRC.

The 'Railway Codes' lists show that route was known as the "Snow Hill East Curve" tunnel: http://www.railwaycodes.org.uk/tunnels/tunnels3.shtm
Sub Brit's article calls it the Smithfield Curve: http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/sites/s/snow_hill_station/index0.shtml

I'm sorry, you probably already know this, but it is in use still as a Thameslink unit. My guess is: Luton - Sutton/Wimbledon or Kentish Town-Sevenoaks. One of the two. Can't say much more than that I'm afraid.

Certainly was not in there this morning. 449 was the only one there coming out into service.

2 x 4 319 were moved from Cauldwell to BCS during the day on Sunday, 319 002 was one of them, I believe 319 009 was the other.

002/009 will be one of the 8 cars cascaded this weekend, 220/446 will be the other.
