Also, looking at a picture of 37884's tightlock coupler, it appears it is the same type that is on the Class 455/456. Is there any reason, apart from the jumper cables on the 455, why a 319 could not couple to a 455 in an emergency?

319006 & 319217 out today on the 12.00 Sevenoaks-West Hampstead. Arranging a farewell tour is not as simple as people might think. A lot of work went into the tour that was arranged.

I understand that but with more thought to it and the amount on notice they've had it couldve been better

Yup, but TL still have 12 319's on their books, unless throughout the first week of September there is a whole stream of Long Marston move they may well be stored on GTR territory somewhere.

No. 319s are compatible with 455s and can be coupled, as you say, for emergency purposes.

When the 319's are behind the 37, do the electrical systems still work? I was watching a video earlier of a haulage and it sounded as if the train's traction motors and brakes were all running.

Brakes definitely do, as the trains don't have to have barrier wagons to provide additional braking force. That is one of ROG's (the operator's) selling points as far as I can remember. Motors won't be working - the train is electrically dead, what you are probably hearing are things like the motor gearing and indeed the motor itself being spun around, but it won't be powered.

On DC motored multiple units especially a lot of the sound is mechanical rather than electrical, in contrast to AC motors.

That will effectively halve the 319 fleet. Was hoping that 319010 would stay to the very end as it is the last Class 319 left at Thameslink with the original interior, hopefully another unit is exchanged for it.
