How are they all getting on in preservation? Been many a year since i saw one, and my grand father in law (may he rest in peace) actually drove one at Hither Green

24054 is running, and I think 24081. The rest are undergoing overhaul.

I think the NYMR one are/were for sale, 032 hasn't worked for at least a decade and 061 has been out for a few years now

032 is being worked on, I believe, certainly was in the shed looking like it was getting attention when I was there in 2023.

Why do they do this?
Its been repainted in two-tone green, which is one of a few that D5053 was. Has also been 24054 in Rolyrail (Loadhaul) in the past. Owners prerogative, at least she works well and boiler to be re-instated shortly.

Always liked how 24032 came to be preserved. The North York Moors Railway urgently needing a diesel because of the 1976 hot summer and 032 still being in working order at a Stockton scrappie.

And it didn't properly enter preservation until 2016, when it was bought by the NYMR from T.J. Thomson & Son Ltd. Prior to then, it had been on loan from the scrap dealer.

When I was last at the NYMR in September, 24032 was being worked on at Grosmont, while 24061 was dumped in the yard outside

Always a shame that the later variant 24142 was never preserved.
24054 and 24142 were both departmental locomotives used for electric train heating (ETH). In 1982 Stratford DRS made one good unit out of 2, which was 24054, so 24054 was a much more viable candidate for preservation.

24061 also survived because it became a departmental loco, used by the research centre at Derby.

Excellent news, another steam heated Sulzer :)

I noticed 5032 in the latest NYMR loco video in the shed. There appears to have been lots of structural work done on it. but probably not recently. I sense it is a long term project where staff can do stuff to it when the other engines are all out at work. This video wasmostly about the conversion of the S160 to oil firing, boiler work etc.

Isn't it owned by the line through like 032 is? To be honest the NYMR seam (along with many other pres lines) to be on their uppers
