On the subject of brake squeal, I don't think I've ever noticed a single 185 demonstrate this yet. Clearly the rheostatic/engine braking significantly eases wear and tear on the brakes as some of the 185s are coming up for 3 years old. Or else Siemens are servicing better or using better components.

Yeah, but 390s also have loud brakes
Yeah, but 390s also have loud brakes
The Junipers (Class 334 anyway) also seem to have very noisy brakes, compared to the Class 320s and 318s.
Last week I went from Leyland to Preston on 180 103 and found it very quiet and comfortable, I wish I could say the same about the rest of Northern Rails stock.
You were probably sat in the first class carriage with a failed engine![]()
But to be fair, it's pretty difficult to block out the noise of a 1000+ bhp (Someone will correct me on that figure, I reckon) on the Sprinters, though.
Although the 323 has a pleasant noise, never been on a 333 so can't really say.![]()
750 bhp per engine![]()
I heard one the other day it sounded like the engine was about to explode - producing some very bad noises.
Northern have sorted them out
not seen 103 for a few weeks now. Keep seeing 108 and 106 about. Is one kept for emergency replacement cover?
180106 should be the one not in use this week i think.
I Guess 180106 has a week off this week because last week was cut short because of 180103 failing?
i passed a 180 on way to work this morning. Judging by the 4 peaks i heard with a gap between 2 and 3, i guess engine in coach c wasn't operating.
