Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the units have a new style cab, or is it more or less the same as the 170's?

Cabs (at least on the Chiltern and LO variants) are based on Chiltern's 168/2's (specifically 218 and 219).

Not exactly, I'm on about the non-gangwayed versions, just curious whether they had completely new cab interiors, i.e. the console, controls, etc., or whether they were more or less the same as the 170/171 units?

Cheers Barry. I take it if they'll be the same, the only thing will be the lack of controls on the LM version of tripcock safety system that is below the speedo, that obviously the Chiltern & LO versions will need?

I doubt the London Overground class 172's will be fitted with tripcock since they dont really operate over any London Underground routes

Haven't earlier posts also pointed out that the Chiltern 172s won't have tripcocks, because there is nowhere on the lightweight bogies to mount them...

The controls beneath the speedo on a 165 and 168 are for the ATP not the tripcock. The tripcock is a passive sytem and doesn't really have a lot in the way of controls except an isolation switch. Resetting of the tripcock is carried out by depressing the uncoupler button.

The Chiltern 172s will not have tripcocks due to issues with mounting the tripcock beam on the lightweight bogies. This means they will not be allowed to operated over the Met unless they are boxed in between 2 165s.

Yes for LO and others but the LM ones will look something like a 375 but a diesel version.

I was on the Gospel Oak-Barking line yesterday around early afternoon to try and catch a ride, but the line was being run by 3x150's, with a fourth at GO.

Also, I went on a 378 for the first time after arriving at GO, it died for about 10 mins at Canonbury

172005 was stabled in East Ham overnight and formed the 0639 from Barking pfm8.

Well, 172004 was operating again today. Saw it leave Gospel Oak on the 1635 to Barking. I made a dash for it but missed it by a few seconds

I did notice it seemed far quieter than the 170s and so on.

I read on FMi that 172005 was in service today but failed and was replaced by 172004.

So that's why i saw Silverlink Liveries 150's at Bristol last Wednesday becuase the London Overground 172's are in service, i wonder how long before we get the London Midland 172's?

There have been 2 Silverlink liveried 150s (121 & 127) working for FGW since sometime in 2008, so was probably these you saw.

Yeah those were the two but they been with FGW Since 2008? the last time i went to bristol was March 1st and i didn't the Silverlink 150s i saw an ATW 150

One thing I was wondering. Don't know if any one can say something about this ... It's known that LM will keep some 150s when the 172s are delivered. Is it likely that these 150s would get LM livery? Or would they just keep the blue NWM livery (even if they are used on the Bedford-Bletchley service)?

I doubt they would go into LM livery, probably just keep them in NWM livery.

I was wrong, it was actually November 2007 that they moved to the South West.

They also work trips off of Plymouth so could have been in deepest South West when you were there or even at a depot having maintenance.

Apparently the 142 cascade from FGW to Northern due in September has been delayed until December, having previously been put back from May. A LO 172 delay is the likely reason.

I'm going to assume that you meant Pfm 1? Pfm 8 is for Tilbury Loop services heading towards Fenchurch Street. (If I'm mistaken, I apologise, especially given it is theoretically possible.)

It's not possible to go to/from East Ham Depot into platform1, so early morning and late night runs use pfm7&8.

Sorry. I was thinking of Barking depot for some reason! I know very well that EH Depot has no [direct] link to Pfm1! I wasn't aware that LO units stable in EH though.

Didn't realise LM were keeping any 150's? Live up north and am hoping for new stock as soon as possible, in whatever form it may take.
