Does this make the Chiltern units pretty much identical to the London Overground 172s then?

(I appreciate the LM units have end doors, of course)

I hope the Chiltern class 172s operate some off-peak services, including Saturdays, by December. I'm sure they will be needed indirectly to release other stock for the Oxford service by 2013.

As far as I know, the 172s are to allow more fasts to Birmingham, as they provide services within the commuter belt.

MKIIIs will free up 168s for the Oxford runs, with the 165s/172s remaining the same as they will come EGIII and beyond serving commuters :)

The Chiltern 172s are intended for all day all stations stoppers to/from Gerrards Cross in the post Evergreen 3 'mainline' timetable.

As discussed only recently the future Oxford services will mostly be diverted Bicester terminators and they will use 168s, which will be found by using more LHCS on Birmingham diagrams.

168s are being released by 67s & MK3s ;)

From the LM staff brief
Each Class 172 carriage is 23 metres long compared to 20 metres for the Class 150 enabling a similar level of seating to a Class 150 but with 2+2 rather than 2+3 seating. Seating capacities are 139 for a 2 car and 219 for a 3 car.
From the initial information received and published on therailwaycentre

172/2 116S Tot - 172/3 188S Tot

Obviously there's been a rethink at LM as the proposed capacity of the 172/2 and /3 fleets was well below that of the current 150 fleet. 23 less in the /2 and 31 less in the /3 than the brief's figures.

just to let you konw the 172 for london midland wll be comeing about dec the 10 for the snowhill live and test wll be done on the train soon they all done 2 test on the train in darby and aston

1000 miles FFT began on the first 172s over a month ago. There was at least one journey made last week to LMS. Dec would be very disappointing. Driver trainers have been told September.

What I'm saying is: I'm confused!

There are now three at Tyseley, what I would assume is the third one to be delivered has full, high back seats fitted. Should be better than the current half seats used on the 150's and 323's.

The other 2 though were still seatless.

I have know details other than it is leaving Derby about 09.00 and due to stand at East Midland parkway for 8 minutes on it first trip. Problem with not having access to Trust :(

Due to run as a 3 car on 15/06 and believe as a 2 car on 16/06.

Can anyone tell me if there was a 172 out on the Stourbridge line at about lunchtime on Sunday June 4th? I passed some sort of LM Turbostar around Cradley Heath while on my way down to Kidderminster, and couldn’t work out if it was a 170 that had gotten lost or a 172 on test.

I haven't even seen a LM 172 in real life yet!

I can't wait til they arrive - I'll be standing at the station platform watching it arrive while everyone else will be thinking 'what the heck!?' :D

Take a ride past Tyseley at the weekend, and you'll see at least one. They're pretty much part of the furniture now. Of course, pretty soon they'll be everywhere! :D

I think my dad would think it was a bit odd if I said to him 'Dad, can I go to Tyseley at the weekend by train to see the new 172s

Anyway, I'm busy at the weekend - I'll just wait till September

I'm not in a huge rush to see them, after all they'll be all over the place in a few months' time and around for many years yet! Now the 150s, I am in a rush to get them!

I've just had one whisper past me at Tyseley. Managed to get my blackberry out in time for a video, which I'll endeavour to upload later :)

Do recent events mean the last LM 172 to be built at litchurch lane could be the last mainline train built in britain (IEP doesnt count its an airfix kit)

The 172 isn't built here, it's assembled here...

The engine is german, the transmission is german, the electronics are french, and the company building them is canadian...

If the IEP is an airfix kit, so are 172s (and anything else built at Derby)...
