Suprising number of surprises at Hamburg Altona+Hbf: not only the Czechs but the Hungarians get there too.
Never made it to Altona but did see MAV stock on a Budapest service and a SJ sleeper. I heard the CD stock is going further up to Denmark.

Note: as can be expected the german equiv of this also has a same-same thread, as they do every year. On drescheibe-online.de, Ausland (=foreign) branch. Lists mostly same as mentioned above but also still a few other things to disappear that may interest some people

The Man in Seat 61 mentioned that NJ will cease running double deck sleepers in April.
thats a shame
took one again back in september between Vienna and Zurich and was great, wanted to take the Zurich to Hamburg one last time in march but the time i wanted to book they are only running to hannover due to engineering so would be a 5am kickout

edit: looked up again just in case and they are going to run now, but 460 euro for the deulux room :( (only real way to ensuring you have a upper room without booking other kind and refunding if not

Not that immediate, but all Spanish non-PRM accesible trains are due to go by December 31, 2027. Classes 440, 446, 450, 451, 470, 524 and 592 have to go, while it's unknown whether classes 448, 526 and 598 will be retrofitted.

Didn't they start having leak problems? They're also restricted to certain routes, I believe.

Not sure about the leaks, but they are restricted to the original CityNightLine grouping of D/A/CH where there is a more generous loading gauge.
They also have less ensuite accommodation compared even with Comfortline cars, let alone NightJets.
(NJ sets are coming on the Austria-Amsterdam run which is a 4-day diagram, conveniently matching Vienna-Zürich-Hamburg for numbers.)

Wish I was able to catch the double deck nightjet coaches - but the prices are now just unfeasible. I've gone through every night until the 7th April for all four routes and the cheapest that I can find for two people in a Double Deluxe (ie upstairs en-suite) is €319, with the Zurich - Hamburg reaching as much as €989!

On a normal (comfortline etc) sleeper there's not much difference between the basic one and one with a wc/shower, whereas the double deck one, with your own table and chair as well as bed and wc/shower really is something different. I was fortunate enough to experience it on expenses for work nearly two decades ago and spent most of the journey in the restaurant car (City Night Line days). 320 euro sounds like a bargain.

Am a bit surprised no-one has mentioned SNCF's remaining loco-hauled IC and TER trains formed of Corail stock, if there are any left. I would expect that the Corail stock on Ouigo Classique trains, and on night trains (seated and couchette cars), will outlast all other remaining Corail coaches by quite a long way.

The TER 200 between Basel and Strasbourg show no sign of disappearance

There are still slows between Paris Austerlitz/Bercy and the centre region but they will probably be displaced soon.

The Paris-Clermont Ferrand and Paris-Limoges Corail have at least 2 years left as the CAF Oxygène trains ordered to replace them are delayed until 2027

Plus Bordeaux to Marseille which will be loco-hauled for a couple of years yet.

Technically they could also run into the Netherlands, there are some (not a lot) of photos online of those cars at Dutch stations, though they haven't been used here anymore since CityNightLine ceased to exist.

Believe the Nord ones are almost gone.

Also there used to be Nord work to Maubeuge and Saint-Quentin - but as you say, Nord is now devoid of Corail.

On the Corail subject, isn't 2025 the year Transdev take over the (roughly) 2 hourly Marseille-Nice TERs, which will see units replace the Corail sets on these?

Think those have already finished?
Oh yes, finished last year.

In the Netherlands it seems an old relic is making a comeback. Rumours have been going around for some weeks but the local news now confirms the plans for a Mat'64 unit to be put back into service between Amersfoort and Barneveld while the current fleet undergoes modernisation. The trainset, built in 1973, is only scheduled to run 2 round trips during the morning peak though as it has no level boarding so it's usage will be kept to the bare minimum. A start date has not been confirmed yet. So catch it before it's gone....again.

I think quite a few of them may survive for some years yet. Apart from the fact that - electrically and mechanically - they are very simple and reliable....they are quite a big tourist attraction in their own right.
Ditto the 'Remodelado' trams in Lisbon - I believe that Carris is supposed to be getting 15 new CAF Urbos trams, but not sure if there are any immediate plans to replace the remaining 'Remodelado' cars particularly on route 28.

Another fleet of vintage trams that may not be around much longer is the Gotha cars on the Woltersdorf tramway near Berlin, although hopefully you'll still be able to ride on trams of similar vintage in Naumburg and on the Kirnitzschtalbahn at Bad Schandau for a good many more years.

Another thing I don't think has been mentioned is the remaining Paris Metro MF67 stock: AFAIK it's currently in service on lines 3, 3bis, 10 and 12.

Not sure if there's still any MP73 stock left on line 6: if there is I think it will go sooner than the last MF67s.

I don’t think anything other than short two-axle vehicles can run on line 28.

The Urbos are for line 15, AFAIK.

At least 6 years left if not more,

MF19s are at least 6 years from the 3 (the last MF67 to change), and 8 years from the 7 (the last MF77 to go) as of Feb 2024

Still quite a few, not all MP89s CC AFAIK have been converted to 5 cars. One source even states that a previously retired MP73 was brought back in service this month.

Lines 28, 25, and 12 all require short vehicles... and trolley poles. Streets are too narrow for pantographs as they could accidentally make contact with house walls.

Train service between Busseau-sur-Creuse and Felletin is set to close by the end of the year due to bad infrastructure state and no perspective for renewement. There are currently two passenger trains each way per day.
A routine success for the provider of bad infrastructure.

Looking at that, the Guéret - Busseau - Montluçon service is also only twice daily and at times of little use for work. As that crosses a region boundary how much longer will it last, I wonder.

Hoping this question isn't off topic as so far this thread has focused on Europe, but does anyone know if the XPT sets are still in regular use in Australia?
