They're using orange even though it makes absolutely no sense.

Could it be because orange is the Overground's line colour, as used on its roundels? It's also the colour in which the line is printed on TfL maps.

That's exactly the reason.

I do think in the years to come TfL will somehow need to find a way to identify each LO line (but they might do this with letters/numbers or something) as the network grows and maps become extra confusing. But I think the colour scheme of the trains will remain unchanged.

I've been in correspondence with AGA about the Aventras. No decision has been made on final specification, nor will it be until after a passenger consultation due shortly. The headlights will be sufficient for compliance and AGA will be looking for brand uniformity. So expect the Aventras to have the same livery as the Stadlers, that is, without yellow.

Good riddance to it Imo.

I really do not see all the fuss being made by yellow don't end especially the argument of you can't see headlights.

Take the 700s for example. The headlights can be seen from Three Bridges Station (straight track for those that don't know). And yes you seen the headlights before you can make out the train even in sunny conditions. (I've been trying this out since before the 700s came in).

This idea the front end is always see first is crap. In the dark, foggy and even dull conditions this simply isn't true. And that's on straight track which we all know is not often given in long stretches.

Thank you for this, was there ever a consultation about the Stadlers?

Surely the lack of yellow end is still sheer speculation. A single cab end moulding is no indicator.

Many trains under construction don't have the yellow ends applied until later anyway.

All the cabs leave cab shop fully painted, with everything arriving on the assembly line fully painted. Must say it took me by surprise when I walked through last week. Very garish. Bring back yellow! :)

Does Derby do the fibreglass bits (cab and car ends) as well then? I thought that they were brought in?

It's simply the standard livery design for TfL rail Now that yellow panels are no longer mandated I would expect the 378s to gain orange fronts in time, assuming their headlamp arrangements are to current standards.

The lights are just horrid, look like something from the 1970s. Hope this isn't really what they'll look like.

Maybe, and it's all subjective, but they look like someone forgot to add them and just cut out two holes afterwards.

My pleasure and no, I'm not aware of a consultation for the Stadlers. I suspect the reasoning behind the Aventra one is due to the plan to remove 1st class. The questions will almost certainly include one that will be along the lines of "Do you use first class?" To which 99% will answer "no" and hey presto, they've listened to their customers.

A notable omission from the HS2 one was "Should this go ahead?"
For obvious reasons.
