This was the last day of a week rambling around the SNCF network. Sailing to my home town wasn't planned. Having got to St Brieuc from Loudeac I realised I wouldn't be able to get to a short crossing port before my ticket validity expired. So in mild panic I headed to Roscoff in the hope of getting on the ferry to Plymouth. Thankfully my get out of jail card was accepted and a relieved QJ headed for Millbay breathing a sigh or three of relief. It was just a case of then sorting getting the hell out of Plymouth tout suite back to London for work.

I am now back where I started one year ago, however the missing book that covers between late 2010 & 2015 has been found, so I will look through that.

Another Scottish Sleeper trip …
43186 + 43027 1750 Reading – London Waterloo via Richmond
(GWML closed at Maidenhead for points renewal, so hourly HST service from West Country diverted to Waterloo).
The sleepers were running from Euston via the ECML again, and were booked to be dragged as far as Peterborough. I arrived at Euston confidently expecting to see a 67 on the buffers, which would be dragged out to Wembley, then work the train to Peterborough. Wrong. 66002 was attached to the train. I hazarded a guess that it had just been used to bring the stock in, and that a 67 would be waiting at Wembley. Wrong again – they had run out of serviceable 67s, so 66002 worked the train to Peterborough!
90037 2006 Euston – Wembley Yard (+ 66002 on rear)
66002 2049 Wembley Yard – Peterborough (+ 90037 on rear) via Camden, Kings Cross Incline
90037 2249 Peterborough – Edinburgh Waverley
60’ late ex Peterborough due to delays in detaching the 66, energising then running round the 90, and getting us ready to depart.

Thanks. Agreed good to look back. It's been a bit nostalgic for me going through the old books and seeing from other people what I missed while I was out.

Today the KWVR provided an opportunity to sample 37075, so it would have been rude not to. However, as I was not on my own I had to settle for one round trip, combined with a walk to the Bronte Bridge and a fish finger sandwich in Haworth.

Not a bad day all round.

A number of other cranks were there for the Syphon, so more revenue for the railway compared to a steam only operation.

An ex-Thornaby loco IIRC?
Started life at Thornaby, had a later spell at Thornaby, but had a stint allocated to March in between.

Here it is straight out of the box:

43096 + 43116 0829 Aviemore – Newcastle
91131 1308 Newcastle – Edinburgh Waverley
This was my first run on a “Mallard” refurbished Mk4 set, yes 18 years ago!
43112 + 43111 1500 Edinburgh Waverley – Leuchars
43117 + 43114 1620 Leuchars – Edinburgh Waverley
43099 + 43108 1834 Edinburgh Waverley – Aberdeen
67002 2140 Aberdeen – Edinburgh Waverley
Tuesday 03/05/05
90037 0110 Edinburgh Waverley – Euston via Carstairs avoider, Newton-le-Willows, Earlestown (a rare bit of bonus loco-hauled track)
… and straight into work!

... and as for 37075, it was unusual amongst Thornaby locos in that it had a working train heat boiler. So it was occasionally purloined for passenger work. The spell at March put that to good use.

A batch of 24 EE Type 3s were new to Thornaby, D6755-78. 24 Thornaby EE Type 3s gave up their boilers in 1964/65, by which time they had D6779 and D6780, with D6758 and D6775 the two locomotives that escaped, going to Dairycoates in summer 1964.

37075 was based at March for roughly 10 years 1974-84 and was common on passenger work in East Anglia during that period.
